Does it have the technicians dipstick stick? Yellow handle down on the sump joint on front of engine. If so you can physically check the oil level.
My MY10 2009 D5 had it, now changed for the full sized police spec dip stick.

Yes it has Paul. I’ve made a couple of half hearted unsuccessful attempts in the past to remove it but given up each time. I recently obtained a full size dipstick kit but haven’t yet fitted it due to the availability of the car and the weather. I don’t have anywhere under cover to work on the cars. I seem to have a record of starting a quick half hour job which then goes pear shaped and takes much longer than anticipated. Hopefully sort it after all this Christmas pressure.

Ian, it sounds like you have as much difficulty getting hold of your daughters car as I do with my daughter.

Last time it took me 2 weeks to prise it off her to fit a new front ABS sensor.

You’re right there. I still don’t know how I managed to have access to the car long enough to service the brakes (front discs and pads and rear pads) last summer.

I can join that club.

Daughter arrived at mine one evening, I asked when she last checked her oil. I cannot she says, the bonnet is jammed, bloody Nora when was the last time you checked it, error, about 3 months ago, which means at least 6.
Went out to it and opened the bonnet, quick jerk and brute force and dipped the oil. There was a smudging on the very end of the dip stick and it was like tar.
When did you last change the oil? You did it. Yes 2 years before.
Took her keys off her, picked up a gallon of oil and filters the next day in work and changed oil and filter when I came home. Dropped the oil, if 3 litres came out that would be generous. Fresh oil and filter, grease bonnet catch and that car thought all it's birthdays had come in one.

1600 petrol auto cavalier, I take my hat off to it, despite all the abuse she gave that car it never once let her down. It got written off outside her house when parked unfortunatly.

Fortunately she has moved on to new lease deals with maintenance included when she has a car, at present her work provide transport for her and taxis are so cheap in China it's not worth owning one. Her husband keeps a car in the UK for family use during holidays, I don't get involved with it or I know what I would be doing over Christmas.
