Default RT Mechanics – Volvo Specialist’s Repair Gone Wrong!

The Man who brought you the 591BHP Volvo now brings you This!

Hello All

This is a very very long read, but it is my reasons why not to let RT Mechanics maintain & tune you Performance Volvo!

Here is my account of what happened after I booked my Volvo 854 T5 R for service & work.

THERE IS PHOTOS FURTHER DOWN TO GO WITH A LIST PROBLEMS PLEASE CLICK THE LINKS THAT GO WITH EACH PARAGRAPH!

I am not going to lie! Only show you what was said through Email’s and what I remember of spoken conversations.

Back in July I took my performance tuned Volvo for a service, new tyres, a health check and any additional work which might have needed doing due to the health check.

I should just point out I had arranged for a loan car, when dropping mine off, So Delivered my car to RT Mechanics collected loan car with not a lot of fuel in it, well 70 miles to the light coming on, filled up Loan car.

Then had a mad idea to buy a 3” ferrite down pipe from Don AKA Kalmar Union as he was only 10 miles down the road.
Whilst @ Kalmar Union, RT Mechanic’s called to tell they had found a problem with my Car that my oil cooler pipes where leaking and 1 of my piston cooling jet cover’s was leaking.

They told me that it would be a few days for the pipes to get there and the loan car I had was booked to go to another customer and they asked if they could have it back as the other customer would be needing their loan car, before my pipes arrived for fitting.

Me being me took the loan car back along with my newly purchased Down pipe for Russ to fit as i was now going back.
I had just put all but a few pence, £60 of fuel in the loan car, I returned it and pointed out to Russ that i had put it in and he said he would sort it out when I returned to collect my car he then drove me to the station and I caught the train home at the extra cost of £48.50

Once home Russ sent me a quote for additional work with the service & tyres

Here is quote from RT Mechanic’s & my Reply

Hello mate

Well that one turned into an expensive service LOL! but well spoted mate as always you have found something that i did not know about and would have meant a hole new car, and i did not know if i could go through that again, I may well have just given up and brought a diesel ( sorry to swear)

Please go ahead and do the list all theses parts are needed.
Will have to wait for the side mount and the one underneath.
Out of interest how much would the side one be? and whilst you have the engine down on the subframe would it be easyer to do?

Another question for you to Would an engine + Box from a V70 T5 P reg work/ fit into mine, the length and position gear linkage and all the other bit's?
Cheers Greg
[/b]

I returned nearly 2 weeks later to collect my car and started my drive long drive home.

I stopped 20 miles short of home to visit a friend and when I got out of the car I noticed there was oil all down the side of the car? I then started the car to turn the wheel to look closer as it appeared to be coming from the driver’s side front wheel as soon as the wheel was turned I switched off the engine, at no time had my oil light come on!

I then Called Russ on his mobile to tell him exactly what had happened, I even told him I had restarted the engine to turn the wheel then asked him what would now happen if my engine was broken to which he replied well you have started it again now?

Stunned and confused Russ then asked was I in the AA or RAC? No I was not I Was agreed That I would get it towed to my Local Volvo Garage for them to fix as it was closer than the 180 miles back to him.

Volvo replaced the oil cooler pipes and stated the oil loss was due to poor fitting of oil cooler pipes! Replaced the filter and handed it back to me, RT Mechanic’s settled the bill with me.

After 50 miles or so I started to hear a very faint knocking noise by this time is was rather upset and here Are the following emails

Subject: Unhappy with work & service

Russ

I have been coming to you since the day i got one of the cars i have always wanted, and from the begining have continued to use you as no one rivaled you in work and service, but now I have a few issues which i am not happy with, Your work with claims of test miles and all in all i am very unhappy with the current service and feel i have been lied to & my trust between us abused.
After now getting my car home and having a good chance to test it I am not happy and here are the list of issues i have.
Lets get this one out of the way first as i feel its the most important one.

You claimed that the car had done 50 miles of testing. It is 206 miles to yours from mine I checked this on my satnav with last journy data, The morning i left I zeroed the trip omiter manual & digital. Now you can chose to believe me or not but I have worked this out with how many miles the clock reads, fuel used against miles and the satnav.
When i left yours the tripomiter read 221 miles not forgeting Derick picked me up from the station so minus 2 miles = 219 miles, 206 away from 219 = 13 miles! hardly 50, plus the fact i made it back all the way to st Albans garage with out the light being on and having 3-4 gallons left, with the 206 miles and your 50 miles of testing and then the 73 miles to the services, there is now way your claims of testing add up and please do not question my math and ways of working things out i have spent 3 hours today with my father working it out against petrol recpiets satnav info from journy data and just miles covered against fuel used and nothing adds up?

The job of the oil pipes was bodged I had a long conversation with the serice guy in the department who was called to look at it by the mechanic he and the mechanic both agreed the it was not done properly and could see that they where not at any time fitted correctly in the first place and also that 50 miles of hard testing would have shown this, I always tell you to test the stuff out my car as well and drive it hard with in an ich of its life.
Although I take the **** out main dealers, these have been good.

I had further conversations with Volvo of what had happened. The mechanic recomended i should first of had a compresion test done as it would have no dought caused excessive wear on the enginne and this guy had worked for volvo for over 30 years he also said That i should get the car valeted underneath & in the engine bay and that you should pay for that as it was caused by you not doing the work correctly. He also said engine wear will now start to show much quicker than it ever would have done before.

When all this happened your comment to me of my question of "what would now happen if my enginne was damaged?" and thinking about it, your answer of "well you started the engine again" felt like you where telling me that if its knackered you have now broke it by starting it again?
I have since tested my car now and the top end performance is down badly

Also now when i have been giving it full beans for a sustained period the down pipe rattels when hot and coming to a stand still, also i can notice the tappets a lot more now when hot & i know my car very well and with out a dowt top end performance has been lost and start up is not the same either its very slow to build up to tick over compeared to how it did before.

Other points which are not correct or very good, you charged me for a pump which was not fitted and the first time i used the washers they produced no water and they where working before they went in to you not at 100% but now there is nothing? the coolant bottle was very over filled and i have had to take some out Volvo did not touch this level, when i mention i put petrol in your loan car and then came back and then caught a train back to help you! Also before i left when i mention the petrol you said to me you replaced that thig that i thought you had none of? what did you replace Russ as i feel i should check this

The tyres i have found a few garages which have them tyres in stock and that line has not been stopped plus the road noise back through them is bad at best, Not your fault!. You knew 4 weeks before i came to you that i wanted 2 new tyres and could have ordered them its not like am not going to pay them as i have always payed every bill and never really questioned them.

I have also been wondering through out this event of a problem caused by faulty work, Where is the support from you, and above first your coment to me then the fact that at no time have you even mentioned to me that we will pay for your inconvinence I have had to pay my mate for a tow truck £30 cash in hand petrol money to Lee for taking me home that night then getting around when not having a car for the few days it was with Volvo, first of all i nearly joimed the RAC at a cost of 70 odd quid why should i of?
You where quite happy to take my money from me and now i feel like i have wasted over a thousand pounds with you and I have without a dowt come away with my car in worse condition than when it went there.

I feel that the level of work from you and the level of customer service from you are a million miles away from where it used to be, and with your comment to me, and with no help from you, i think i know how Chris must have felt when he had his problem with Vovlo Tuning even though my car is running its not right Russ!

I have forgen what the chap at Volvo said as well about the piston cooling gasket that it was impossible to fail with the size of the gasket and he had never seen one go and he also told me he thought the only way it would leak is if it was losened and that the price you charged me was the price for a pack of 3? even though it was only just 5 quid odd.
This may not be relivant to you but its what has been going through my mind since yesterday?

I am not very happy with RT Mechanic's full stop Russ, my trust has been abused, my feeling of reliability with your work is very low and i wounder if i should continue to be a customer with you?

I would like to discuss these matter's further with you but only by email as i am to wound up about the hole thing to talk on the phone i feel like i have been robed, I have kept this matter polite please lets keep it this way.

Hi Greg
Just seen your reply so sorry you feel this way I do feel terrible that you feel this way as you have been a great customer of ours especially as your not down the road !! I did test your car and replaced the fuel I used I can only guess that this upset your read out ?? I was happy all was ok when you called and I wanted to be double sure all is A1.
You could not leave the car with us any longer that was fine so I straight away went out for another run in the car and put it on the ramp to double check all was ok it was so I was happy the car was to go you even said your self you drove all the way to the services without a problem ? As you said yourself you checked yourself that all was ok at the time.
Sometimes parts can go wrong what ever you do if the new seals were not put in right they would of leaked straight away I felt terrible that you had a problem and would of rather looked at the car my self but to make it quick and easy I said take it to Volvo as it was nearby and was happy to pay the bill.
The washer pump is brand new I saw Andrew fit it and get wet !! we tested it straight after and all was well. There is no chance that serious damage has been done as you said your self the low oil pressure light did not come on ,the front pipe rattling ( I also gave you the lambda sensor loom I had got from BSR that was not given to you with the front pipe as I wanted all to be A1) will not mean engine wear I would have to listen to it for the tappet noise I am more than happy to send Derek up to your house and collect the car and clean the underside and make all well again at our cost we really value your custom and do not want any bad feelings between us.
As for the charge of the gaskets I even showed you the gasket leaking and showed you where it goes and also told you I had never seen one leak that does not mean it never will as every gasket CAN leak .
I will double check this first as I don‘t do the invoices and as you saw we are training a new lady .I did change the lower torque arm bushes for the poly type which are under the front they connect the subframe to the gearbox as part payment of the fuel I owe you I said I can get you a new type top mount as well but we had non in stock.
Also as for the tyres our local tyre company said they checked with Dunlop and told us they are not available I will make a few enquires if yor not 100 % happy with them if you wish.
Again I am very sorry you feel this way I am sure given a chance I can make you happy again please let me know your thoughts….

Hello Russ

You may have put fuel in but how do you explian the tachomeiter reading 221 miles when i left yours? I have looked at the amount of miles traveled with your claim of 50 and keep coming up 38 short, but never mind
Anyway i am goint to start bickering with you over it now.

Don told me that the loom on a P1 car is long enough and a new loom for the lamda sensor is only for a P2 cars? I dont know Russ?

Its a lot of hastle for both of us to get my car back to you and a lot of hastle for my mum to be with out my car whilst away.

With regards to the rattle you will have to drive it flat out in low or get the revs very high then let them off and you will have no problems hearing it. I did this down a country road twice and both times got the same sound, not good you will have to drive the same to hear the noise.

With regards to damage to my engine and the oil light not coming on the only oil in the engine was 1 ltr that was what Volvo told me they also said with that amount of oil in being run hard and fast pull away it would have burnt what oil was left in it and high rev's would stop the light from coming on but will have done damage?

I know my car Russ and somthing is not right with it and i am now thinking of getting rid of it after this and starting again as it dose not feel right performace down the bottom end is ok but top end is not the same

You still have not realy explained your anwser to me of what you said down the phone of the comment of well you started it again? what was all that about? even the tone of your voice changed.

If Derick where to collect it when would you propose to do this as i am going away Tuesday Morning and how would he get here? Obviously i want my car sorted out and running correctly so where do we go from here?

Realy Russ What would you propose to do to my car and what compensation do you intend to offer for the inconvience i have suffered.

Hi Greg

I am happy as I said to send Derek up to your mum to collect the car and leave a loan car for her to keep the hassle to a minimum .I would rather look at the car myself and try to restore some faith in us with you I do not want to loose you as a customer at all. Derek can drive up to see your mum and sort the car out for you while your away or I can wait until your back next if you prefer ? I will go right over the engine etc to check all is right and have the underside properly cleaned and the rest of the car properly valeted as a piece offering if you want me to double check about the tyres then that’s not a problem i can assure you if any damage was done you would be able to here it clearly. I have already offered to cover the cost of the Volvo garage and also any other costs you had.

What I ment when you said you noticed a problem at your mates house and saw oil leaking the last thing I would of done was start the engine I did not mean any offence at all just saying what I thought at the time .

The Volvo garage are wrong one litre is not a lot but the oil pressure light does what it says if the pressure was too low it would of come on I am sure all is fine please don’t worry. there is approx another half litre in the engine and oil cooler even when drained down you would no straight away if there was a problem .

Please let me know again sorry for any problems we have caused .

Russ

So I returned offshore for three weeks and Agreed for RT mechanics do the above.
Unfortunately when Derrick came to collect the car My Father decided he wanted to know exactly what repair’s Russ was going to do? And what compensation he was going to offer, Russ stated as he said above which my father was not happy with, out of my control. Hence Derrick went back without my car.
So when I got home I spoke with Russ and apologized to Derrick for coming all that way and then going home and said sorry to Russ for being messed around, Needless to say he was not very happy with me and did not hold much regard for my father.
I asked if Russ would arrange to collect it again to which he replied no! So I now had to deliver it again (maybe fair for messing them around?) But he also said he did not have a loan car for me, which I found strange as I would have still had the loan car as he would have still had mine, at this moment I felt that RT Mechanic’s where starting to be difficult with me.
SO I delivered my car again! And again caught the train home and was without a car in fact I returned to work, it took that long,
Before I returned to work I sent the below email.

Subject: Why so long?

Hi Russ

This afternoon I recorded our conversation on my mobile and let a mech who works at Volvo hear it.
He could not understand what is taking you so long and has said a blind man could change a pump in 10 mins with one arm behind his back, but it should be easy for you by working back along the system first under the bonnet disconnect before the valve, then at the pump if no luck with the pump replace pump which you already told me you have another one! then failing that remove the bottle empty clean and replace, he said it would take him at the outset 2 hours.

With regards to the heat shield which took you days to find he pointed out that i was able to repete reproduce the noise with in 10 mins or 15 miles of hard driving so what was taking you so long?

As for the tyre's he has asked to ask why you did not put them on another car to test them? Or why another set of wheels where not put on mine to see if the noise is still there? Instead of going to the extremes of sending them away?

He has also said had they taken this long to sort out a problem that he would of been sacked by now and as i have paid my money what is taking so long to fix? Has made me see that you have had my money and said, you appear to be staling? for what he dose not know? And if I am as valued customer as i said i am then what the hell is really happening Why when i have gone out of my way first to bring the loan car back and go home by train then to be kept waiting & waiting for the original job then to have to demand the job be done so i could collect it again on the train plus the fact I was without a car for the that time, Then for the job to fail and you take nearly 4 weeks to get the car regardless of arrangement with the customer, with my father aside, then taking as long as you have to get this far is pretty **** poor Russ he pointed out I was Inconvenienced at my expense so another customer could have a loan car the first time as i was good enough to come back and that by the sound of it now all other customers are more important than me, Am i the only one who is good enough to make wait? I bet the Peril has been fixed new gear box! when was this done dont tell me the weekend or evenings in the last week as I am a paid customer who is still waiting for you to put something right you monumentally cocked up Back in July and we are now getting into September.

I have also since been in touch with Barclay card as it was paid on that card and they have told me with all the goings on i should have put a hold on the payment originally but they will still reclaim the payment in full if the work is not completed correctly and have said they can do up to 4 months after the transaction.

I mentioned the inconveniences you where caused with Derrick and shuffling work around and having to pay for the Derricks time.
He was quite right to say it sounds like your the one giving me a hard luck story! Why?

So he has suggested I get some form of cash compensation for all the hassle that i have been caused and i think he is right as he pointed out a full valet at best is £250 and that would will right that off in you business no worries.

So What is Going to happen Russ?

I would really like you to email me and answer all these questions tomorrow if you can.

Why dose another Volvo Mechanic of over 30 years think your taking the **** & he has said he could of stripped and rebuilt my car by now, so whats going on?
Greg

Hi Greg
We are sorry your not happy we are trying to ensure all the problems you have reported with the car are rectified. The heat shield problem is separate to the oil seal failing it is an intermittent noise as you have found, so not easy to find quickly, regarding the tyres we have spoken to the supplier and they will inspect them and advise us if there is a manufacturing problem or otherwise.
The washer pump we have replaced under warranty again and is working correctly.
The car will be valeted and the floorpan cleaned as promised.
I did start work on the car even though it was not booked in until the Tuesday after the bank holiday and you wanted to drop it off early as it suited you better.
I will keep you up to date by email. As a kind note legally you need to inform me if you are recording our telephone conversations.
Regards Russell

At this point I should just let you all know I was lying to Russ with regards to recording our phone conversation, I only said this to try and hurry him up and was suspicious of what was taking so long? Stupid I know!
But a Volvo Mechanic of 30 years had stated the above.
So off I went to work for 3 weeks and before my return I received this

Hi Greg
Just a quick update for you the exhaust rattle I have found and has now gone and the valet is done. It will be ready and nice and clean for your return on the 30 th it will just have another wash over to make it clean again while its been standing .The NSF noise I suspect is the wheel bearing is still making the same noises as I said on the phone last week and is not the engine noise.
See you on the 30th

Hi Russ

Thats good news that you have found and managed to fix the rattle, What was it?
With regards to the wheel bearing it can sit at home now for the next few months as i am away and will not be home for a while to drive it and at the moment i am paying my rather large back dated danish tax bill so am skint for a while as it has to be paid soon.
So i will see you on the 30th then
Cheers Greg
Ok after this long I had lost all trust and faith in RT Mechanics and had already arranged for a Technician to fix the wheel bearing and check out my car here is the following report he helped me with and please bearing mind I do not know a lot about cars, In seeing the condition of my car he helped me put this together for presentation to trading standards to try and claim something back
Here is the list of things he found wrong
Russ

This is a document i put together and sent to RT Mechanic's

This is getting ridiculous now, when I booked my car in for work with you I also asked for a full health check, as I always do, and you have told me every time I have collected it that everything is fine, but as we both now know, everything is not fine.

So I have had my car thoroughly scrutinized by a technician who spent a long time going over my car with me, to show me points that are wrong with my car - things that RT Mechanics have not fixed and missed - and for a company who prides themselves on being a Volvo specialist it is not very good.
The chap has prepared a list with photo's for me to present to Trading Standards as he thinks I have a good case, I will show you the full list with pic's below which is ready for presentation to Trading Standards, as is the law, that you have to be shown what is being presented to Trading Standards, to make your case too.
1. Actuator was set so tight that the car was boosting to 1.6 Bar, and then dropping to 0.8.Bar, 5 full turns were taken off the actuator to bring the boost to 1.2 Bar where it stays and holds. The previous over boosting was not a feature of the T5R but a request of the ECU to reduce boost as it was too high. This can be seen to be correct with the actuator being set correctly as it is now stable. The 30 second over boost is removed with the Rica map. The actuator lock nut not being done up did not alter the actuator setting as the actuator rod did not turn. The correct actuator opening pressure is 1.81 PSI; the actuator was opening at 6PSI, this lead to... the above mentioned over boosting
2. Both front ABS wires were not fitted in their retainers near the struts on the body of the car.
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00083.jpg
http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_DSC00084.jpg

3. NSF inner CV gaiter is of very poor quality and of the wrong type for the car, it is too long and the bellows don't maintain their shape under normal use. This will cause them to wear very fast and leak. Also the OSF outer CV gaiter is of the same type as the NS inner so the same applies here.
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00091.jpg
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00083.jpg

4. I know you did not charge me for the Polly gearbox tie bar bush you fitted, you did not say if it would be a new or used part but I did think it only fair whatever it was that it should be undamaged. It looks
like a dog has been chewing at the side of the bush I could see.

http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00085.jpg

5. I know you never give a check list of what the "health check" entails but I thought it would include some simple things that all 850 can suffer from. I found that both of my handbrake cables are insecure on the rear suspension where the black strap goes around them and should be held on with a pop rivet. Can you confirm that it would pass an MOT with insecure handbrake cables please?
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00090.jpg
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00088.jpg

6. The brake pipe that goes to the rear of the car is distorted near the first rear braided hose where the floor of the car is damaged at the same place as the bolt out of the floor is bent that should be used to
retain the pipe. The pipe is not secured in any manor in that area. Can you confirm if this is an MOT failure item?
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00086.jpg

7. I assumed that when you previously maintained my car that genuine parts are used unless otherwise stated and unless a performance alternative is a more suitable product, example IPD anti roll bars and poly urethane bushes. Bering this in mind can you please explain why a Nordic branded fuel filter is fitted to my car?
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00087.jpg

8. I noticed that the evaporation pipe going past the crankshaft pulley on the sub frame is not secured by any means, there is a hole for a clip to be inserted in to but there is not clip. Again I know you may not of lost this but I thought you would of let me know so that I at least had the option of having it rectified.
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00092.jpg
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00093.jpg

9. Numerous brake pipe clips are missing from under the bonnet around the ABS unit, OSF brake pipe routed very close to the turbo/heat shield (18mm from heat shield). One brake pipe from the Master cylinder is bent so much that it over hangs the cam cover going straight over an exposed part of the exhaust manifold.
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00097.jpg
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00098.jpg
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00099.jpg
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00100.jpg

10. There was a rattle that I think you were on about but this was caused by the 12mm headed bolt that secures the turbo heat shield supporting bracket being loose. This was tightened and the noise went away. I can see that you must have installed this bolt as it requires removing the gain access to the down pipe nuts for the down pipe that you fitted. I can also see your attempts to fix what you thought it was so, what is that supposed to be holding on my heat shield?

11. The wheel bearing has now been done. When this was done and the mechanic took the nut off the drive shaft he hardly put any pressure on it to undo it; he said you would have undone it to put the sub standard NS inner gaiter on and if not done up tight again this would have caused the bearing to go very quickly and let’s face it Russ, it did not go until I first got my car back from you the first time, which I reported to you, along with all the oil being blown out of the engine due to poor fitting of the oil cooler pipes.

12. The noise that I complained about is still the same when I picked the car up, when the car is stationary and the revs held at 2200RPM a deep knocking can be heard from the bottom of the engine. When a mechanic listened to this noise he confirmed that it was coming from the crank/bearing shells, and has said that if it was not knocking before the oil was spat out the oil cooler pipes due to poor fitting then that is most very likely the cause of the damage, He also explained that shells will be a larger diameter and the crank will wear to a smaller diameter, he also said “excessive wear will not show straight but come very quickly”, which is exactly what has happened
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...nt=Picture.jpg

13. The quality of the under body clean was poor, there were still big patches of oil down the driver’s side, but it was commented that you could see it had been done but not very well, this was commented on by a car cleaning company who were going to do it originally. You can see by this exhaust guard there are still big patches of oil; it was the same under the whole car.
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00106.jpg

14. Why if you took so long cleaning the engine bay is there still oil in places and grommets not in place? Here are some pictures of the first time you had my engine bay done - a big difference - and an obvious sign of how much your standards have dropped. This time below!
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC00101.jpg
And Before
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ent=After2.jpg
http://s951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ent=After1.jpg
A big difference

I have been bringing my car to you for a while now and have spent a lot of money with you, what has happened to your A1 work and attention to detail?
I have now lost confidence in RT Mechanic's to do any further work on my car as you have had it for such a long time and it is still not right and now it’s been diagnosed there is definite engine damage - most likely caused by the loss of oil!

This is why I have no choice but to go to Trading standards to recover my money, and the money I have spent in travel alone, after talking with my father about what I have had to spend with you in travel to get my car back and cost of my time, as you charge me for your time!

Russ Here is a list below of what it has cost me in travel to you back and forth so you can repair my car after the disastrous job you did the first time around.

£60 pound fuel in your loan car which I returned, which you fitted a damaged G/box bush for as part payment if you check your own email!
£58 train fare home
£58 train fare back to collect my car
£45 in fuel to get it to you again
£48 to get home again
£48 to get back to you to collect it again
£45 in fuel to get home
£30 tow truck dolly style to Volvo
£30 fuel to my friend for the taking me home the night my car shot it oil out 64 round miles round trip
Its also getting on for about £130 to £150 in Taxis as you had my car such a long time and still did not manage to fix or recognize the faults!

So as you can see I am out of pocket after RT Mechanic's failed to correctly and competently carry out simple maintenance work which has resulted in further and permanent damage to my car, and to me it's not just a car it was something that we were going to restore & tune with complimenting tuning upgrades together, which could have been a great advertisement product for your company. Now I have half a mind to show forum members ‘why not to’ use RT Mechanics. I see no other option but to go to Trading Standards.

I will not be going to Trading Standards if you re- imbrues the above mention cost. The tyres, I do not expect you to pay for as they are a wear and tear item; and also settle up my above expenses together with further compensation for the damage to my engine.

I think it is only fair that I give you till Monday 12th October to resolve this matter, as after that my Father will be back from open heart surgery by then and all my efforts will be going in to help him and I do not want to be chatting with you or Trading Standards all the time when there are more important matters like my family. So I will give you till then to either pay me in full or I will have no choice but to go down the Trading Standards route. RT Mechanic’s failure has cost me? I will let you decide what is a fair figure for fixing the bottom end of my engine as a result of the mechanic’s failure.

I then remembered there was another long standing unfinished matter as well and sent this

Russ

I also forgot to ask did you ever sort out my end links? which failed very quickly.
As you did tell me last year you would be getting in touch with the company who suplyed them and getting them sorted and back to me whilst i used standard ones you sent me its been some time now.
Thanks Greg

So here I am Now 7th October have tried to speak to RT Mechanic’s before I send off my form’s to trading standards, I don’t realy want to go down that path.

So I call Russ to ask if he has received the 2 Email’s above?
He Told me he had but as I had recorded our conversation he was no longer able to discuss the matter, I told him a few times I did not understand why? To which he replied I can’t discuss it with you? Then in mid sentence he hung up.
After Which I sent the Following Email’s to RT Mechanic's

Russell

Please can you tell me yes? or no? if you consider the matter of my volvo closed?

On another point i did tell you that I had recorded a conversation and played it back to a mechanic.
This was from me a blatent lie to see your reaction, as you had taken such a long time to deal with the problem.
And i know it is against the law to record a conversation unless first stated it is for legal reasons. so I would not do that any way.

Your conversation with me just now saying that i have gone mad and not kept it polite is not fair either, I have posted up on forums using a false user name to see what other people think of the work you did and to see if they think it is accepitble work from a garage?
As well and at no time have i mentioned you or your garage.

Maybe you should have a look on Volvospeed & Sweedspeed and see what people are saying about the work you did to my car.

But what realy sticks in my gut Russell is why are these things on my car like this when you gave me your word every thing would be put right! com on put your self in my shoe's and ask your self how would you feel if this had happened to you
Regards
Greg Shrimpton

Hello Russ

Can i please bring this to your attention it is from the trading standard web site just to let you see where i legaly stand on the matter regarding my my right as a customer with you
vehicle repairs and servicing
(for England, Wales and Northern Ireland)

When you take your car to a garage for servicing or repair, you are making a legally binding contract with the garage owner and the laws you can look to for protection are the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 and the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002. These laws give you statutory rights and you are entitled to expect that the work be carried out with reasonable care and skill, within a reasonable time at a reasonable charge. If a part is replaced, the new part should be of satisfactory quality, fit for the purpose and as described.

If a fault has not been repaired properly, you should allow the garage the chance to rectify it. If they fail to do so, you may be entitled to get the work done elsewhere and recover the cost from the garage. If the garage fits a part, which turns out to be faulty, and it has not been fitted very long, you may be entitled to a refund, or you could ask for the part to be replaced. If you pay for the servicing or repairs by credit card, and if the work costs more than £100, you are protected by the Consumer Credit Act 1974 which makes the credit card company equally liable. It is a criminal offence to charge for work which has not been carried out.

As you can see Russ I did ruturn my car to you for all problems with my car to be fixed and put right as you stated in your email to me.

Thanks for your time
Regards Greg

Russ has now not replied to me so I Felt I should show my version of events and feel It necessary to show you what has happened to me whilst trying to Restore my Tuned Performance Volvo

Hi Greg,

Sorry to hear about the aggro you've had with the car.

I'm not going to comment either way about what has happened as I reckon it'll have to be sorted out through legal channels, possibly with the intervention of Barclaycard - so in the meantime I'd be careful to ensure that whatever you post is absolutely the truth - if things turn really nasty, RT could counter-sue you for Libel if anything you've said is not 100% accurate or complete.

And of course, while disturbing, this only describes things from your perspective. No offence intended Personally I would not have posted this but would have sought legal advice and taken the matter from there - this post can only complicate matters as previously stated.

I hope everything works out amicably for you and RT without the need for legal redress, and that your father's op is successful.

Hello RollingThunder

I am waiting to hear from vairouse chanels regarding the mater, maybe your right i may have screwed a few things, by telling Russ i was recording our conversations when i was not and maybe posting here was a bad idea but its done now, it was posted in a bit of a rage after yesterday i will admit, but it was after Russ had put the phone down on me stating he could no longer discuss the matter with me? I told him a few times i did not understand why and that was it.

And the title of what i called it "the man who" was my own thought's at the time when writing the document, I just forgot to scub it out before i posted it twice

Most of all thanks for asking He is in Intesive care recovery for a few days now but will be ok, he has rad a sucesful heart valve repair,
I did not realise they have to stop the heart put him on a heart & lung machine take it out and put it back hook it up and start it again.
Its amazing what they can now do, 20 years 15 years ago it would not have been possible.
Regards Greg

EDIT Greg's original post has been edited as discussed with him.

Greg,

our forum rules state it is possible to put up accounts of what happened where you feel wronged by a third party.

RT Mechanics will have their right to reply, of course.

Please check section 7 of the rules:

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/rules.html

to ensure we stay the right side of reasoned discussion.

I am sorry to hear of your personal circumstances, that can't be helping matters.

Cheers, Pete

Hi Greg,

Just thought I'd let you know that my father had a triple bypass a while back - the Consultant said that it should give him an extra 4-5 years. Despite complications during the operation, he's still with us and doing very well - the op was 12 years ago Modern medicine is amazing - I'm sure your Dad will be fit as a fiddle in a few months time.

All the best,
RT

I am by far not the best fan of Russ to the point he is on my ignore list, he tends to try and twist facts around.
However after reading your long thread I see that Russ has offered to sort out the problems and even sent out a machanic to recover the car and leave you the use of a car. The period in which this has been going on is in my opinion not satisfactory but please remember you work away so can work against you.

Contact Russ and ask him to restore your faith in his company and service, I think that it is all out in the open he may try to put things right in a speedy fashion and I really think you should allow him to try.

Sorry to hear about the all the agro you are having and I hope it all gets resolved.

Without prejudice,

Well firstly and most importantly I would like to say that it is good to hear that your father is on the mend I am sure that, based on personal experience, the emotions you must have been experiencing were intense to say the least during the last few weeks. I am sure that it is a relief that he is over the worst of it now.

In response to your question regarding opinions to your post, having read through it, you should really have waited until the 12th for a response from RT's before taking any further action. I would say that posting on a public forum wasn't the correct way to go about it either and making claims about recording phone conversations without permission, whether you did or not, probably wasn't a smart move especially considering you confessed to it on a public forum.

It looks like this has been blown out of proportion and probably still can be rectified to the satisfaction of all parties relatively easily if allowed

Just my opinion as you requested

Hi Steve

Unfortunaty Russ has said he is no longer willing to discuss the matter with me nor has he replyed to my emails, so i must assume that he thinks giving back a car to a customer in a worse condition than when it got there is fair bussines as far as he is concerned, I only hope he dose not treat all of his customers this way.

My faith in Russ/RT Mechanic's has gone out the window as he had a chance to put every thing right once already, and not done so, and told me that every thing is fine when it was not.

After being shown the quality of the work done to my car, compared to how it should been done and the time it took to put things right apart from the knocking crank shells it sickens me to think if it only took that long why did he not do it in the first place?

I wish he would call and say lets put this behind us here is the money for your excess traveling and here is money for what a new set of shells cost plus gasket and fitting which is not a lot and i would forget about the hole thing.

But as he has refused to talk with me so there's not a lot i can do.

Cheers for the surgestion thought Steve.
Regards Greg

Hello Andy

Thanks for your concern he is starting to get better and as of 9pm was strong enough to breath on his own again! your spot on as well it has been a very emotional 6 days so far but tonight things have lifted quite a bit.

With regards to saying i will wait till the 12th and give him 1 week, that was regarding contacting trading standards, which i have not done yet!

Well I will still wait till then to do anything about it as i said.

But the day i posted was the day he told me he can no longer discuss the matter with me so what am i suposed to do?

So all i have done is Told my account of what has happend, yes i was wrong to say to Russ "I Recorded a phone conversation" But Russ is just as wrong to say he will no longer discuss the matter with me

I saw no problem with posting a bad experiance with a Garage to show how things have not been put right after another attempt.
One hell of an additional cost was caused to me by the first job being bodged
thats all it comes down to now.

I dont know Andy? You are god mates with him why dont you try talking with him and see what he has to say, You have my full permision to discuss the matter with him on my behalf to see what he proposes to do for a once valued customer as you now are!

By the way nice car you have there I saw it when I collected mine for the second time looked very clean have to say!

Kindest Regards
Greg
