Default Speedo kaput in 1990 740 saloon...any way to fix it?

Hi all,
First of all the odometer stopped working in my 744, then a few months later the Speedo stopped working...I know the odo is likely to be down to a stripped cog, but is the Speedo itself an easy fix? I can live with the squirrelly fuel gauge and the no-show odo, but knowing how fast I'm going without squinting at an app would be very useful!

Many thanks in advance for any and all advice!
Phil

How steady do your paws feel Phil? Have a look at this lot :

Hopefully something in there to help! When i had my last 740GLE, they were still plentiful, both to buy as going concerns and spares breakers so i was able to buy a good 36k miles iinstrument cluster for about £30 - now they're about £80!

That might be your best option though. I'd also suggest getting a decent holder for your mobile phone and mounting it in landscape mode so the speedo display on the GPS app is larger to view. I used one recently called simply "Speedometer" from Google Play Store. At least you should be able to see it without doing Mr Magoo impressions until you get the speedo sorted!

might be worth checking the connector on the diff, when the speedo stopped working on my 740 I found the connector had badly corroded and the wires had broken off.
