Smile 940 Intercooler Upgrade - Isuzu NPR

Hi all,

I am contemplating an intercooler upgrade for my 940. I have heard an Isuzu NPR model fits in without the need for modification. Is this correct, I have also heard it may not fit if the car has A/C which mine does. Is this because the radiator is thicker on an A/C car?

I have seen some NPR intercoolers on EBay for approx £500-£800 which seems quite a bit, but then I have also seen them for about £200 on eBay from Spain. Any ideas why there is such a difference, I am assuming LHD / RHD doesn’t affect the intercooler so I could buy a cheaper one from Spanish EBay? Has anyone done this swap? Was it quite straightforward?

Alternatively are there any other suitable upgraded intercoolers available?

Thanks

I can't really help with the answers to your questions directly but you might find it cheaper to find a bespoke uprated intercooler for the 940. For example :

https://www.do88.se/en/artiklar/engi...o-2/index.html

https://www.ipdusa.com/products/2102...91-do88-icm140

First link the prices are in Swedish Krona, about 10 to the £ usually but check the exchange rates to get an accurate figure, second on in US$, about $1.20 =£1 usually but again, check.

All cheaper than the Izusu option, and both more likely to fit easier. That said, they're both from suppliers where cars have the handlebars on the wrong side so would be worth checking the size/shape etc compared to what you already have.

I expect some of the people on here running modified turbos will be along soon to give more exact help, from what i found while searching for bespoke options, the intercooler only becomes a problem above 300bhp, up until then it does the job.

I do indeed https://www.classicswede.co.uk/74094..._16513751.aspx

The NPR will not fit cars with AC. The radiator and intercooler on AC cars are much wider than the non AC version

Its not quite 100% drop in but with a little trimming goes in

KL Racing intercooler is the best.

There's also one on ebay that looks like it would be very close to dropping in. Would need some mounting brackets welding on somewhere though.

I forgot to say, I was talking to someone at retro rides and he has fitted an eBay special from an Audi that appeared to fit very well.
