PS I think a 940 saloon is an ideal LPG conversion candidate as the estate you want all the space or where to put spare wheel if donut tank. In the saloon an oblong tank behind seats a nice location.

James.
James - i've heard reports recently the V6 Lexus engine is prone to dropping big ends at high mileages, not terrifically common but does happen.
On the flip-side of that, a friend of mine in Sweden recently bought a GS450h (or was it 430h) and is very impressed with it - traded a GS300 in against it. The dashboard is like Mission Control at NASA, especially when running on batteries!

My thoughts are very similar on the LPG conversion but i favour the donut tank in the spare wheel well. For the most part, if your normal road tyres are good, you won't need a spare, if you do you can carry something like TyreWeld or on longer journeys, strap the spare into the boot. I know the estate has 6 cargo lashing points, not sure if the saloon does or not but could easily just lay there on a long journey.

How much do you reckon it would cost for me to fit lpg to the 940 Dave? I would need it to be able to cope with 250ish hp too.

Just looking in to decent all weather outdoor car covers, auto express have rated the Halfords one very highly, with my trade discount it comes down from £70 to £48.

I'll send you an email with a few ideas and links Luke about the LPG, easier than trying to add it all into one post on the thread.

*** EDIT *** Email sent!

Oh dear! I take it high mileage is hopefully 200,000+? Would want to see regular service of oil etc as probably buy one with around 150k. At least if serviced well hopefully engine lasts.

I haven't needed a spare wheel in around 15 years. But the day you don't have a spare wheel you get a puncture that a can of tyre weld wont work on! Most likely on dull, rainy dark night. I like a full size spare. Lexus had a space saver. I replaced it with a matching alloy.

LPG running costs would be great. Wish there were more LPG suppliers in my area.

The one i heard of recently was 280k but had full service history i believe.

As you rightly say about the spare wheel, the moment you forget it, you get a puncture that Tyreweld won't work on.

Wherabouts in the Midlands are you? There are loads round the Birmingham area :

Type your area into the search bar on the page and you should see most if not all the suppliers near you..

280k I wouldn't of been too sad. Lived for a while!

I would like LPG on my 940 but nearest LPG outlet is around 6 miles away. Noticed no price displayed lately, so possibly stopped selling. Always around 72p as off A38. Other place is Willington which is around 10 miles away. Loads around Brum around 52ppl which I go to once a week but in my diesel Lexus! Based near Burton on Trent.

My nearest LPG station is 12 miles away, next nearest is 22 miles away. Don't know if you have a Morrions near you but if there's a petrol station with it, they normally sell LPG as well. At the price of LPG Vs petrol, it's worth a once a week journey to fill up.

Hi Luke

My 940 lpg system fitted in 2014 has saved me about eight grand to date and I will always have lpg fitted to future petrol cars and this is how I look at it:

The bank loan needed to fit the sytem doesn't cost you anything because from the get go on day 1 the money you save on petrol pays the bank loan! Then once the bank loan ends you are quids in!

Thanks Laney

It is increasingly looking like the sensible option here.

Dave has sent me an email regarding the lpg which I am yet to have time to sit down properly and go through (I will certainly do it though Dave and thank you for taking the time to write it for me).

I will hopefully be able to do the installation myself and then get it certified so I'm hoping a bank loan won't come in to it! Worst case is it does then Nationwide do a very attractive one.

Conversion need not be overly expensive.

The 940 will take a 95ltr spare wheel shape tank in the wheel or a 120ltr cylinder over the rear axle for long range. (bear in mind the tank only fills to 80%)

The ECU chosen ideally wants to be one that is able to filter the second injection pulse of each cycle as this helps keep the injector opening times short enough at idle yet not fully open at the higher end of teh RPM range. There are a few systems that work well.

Injectors, as the engine fires all cylinders at the same it is best to use injectors with a higher resistance. Low resistance injectors can often cause ECU driver overheating problems.
I no longer drill the manifold but use a spacer that fits between the manifold and petrol injector

Vapouriser, You want one with more BHP capacity than what you are making due to being full group. You also want one capable of fairly high pressure with a working pressure around 1.2-1.8bar. A lot max out at 1.6bar and can then struggle to flow enough.
