This is low on my priority list (ie, wait for warm weather! I was thinking it is the amp. Getting a new driver, or better still, a new capacitor will be a doddle!

Thanks for the advice.
Regarding sourcing a main speaker for the front door, are they all the same or are the Dynaudio different? Just want to get the correct item. Cheers. |

Dynaudio is different impedance and different power handling to the non-Dynaudio speakers Compare also part numbers in VIDA

Right then, I've taken the door trim off, and listened to the speaker as per the atached photo. The larger is silent, the smaller is working. I'm assuming as they work from a single plug that therefore the larger speaker is unserviceable. Anything I should still test?
If that's the case, and I need to replace the pair, how do I remove it? If you look at the photo I have marked the mounts, and these look like rivets? I was expecting it to be bolted on. Help please! (see photo). Last edited by Stu V8 2007; Jan 16th, 2018 at 16:33. |

It is riveted on. Drill out the rivets to remove the speaker
You will likely need to replace the speaker. Then refit with new rivets or use a screw or bolt combination of your choice

OK thanks, I've put it all back together for now. Maybe one day . . . .
It's a shame you can't just replace the large round speaker and leave the small one and the bracket in place. |

Those rivets are not an easy job. Solid steel and at some point they start turning while being drilled.

For what possible reason would that have been specified as the method of attachment at design time?? Crazy.

There is simply no way I'm doing all of that just (rivets) to replace a speaker, that's beyond me, I was amazed to have removed the door trim without breaking anything ... and replace it with everything still working!
But can I please just check: In the photo above post, it shows my speaker as an entire unit with a large and a small speaker side-by-side in a single bracket. As I said, the small tweeter is working, but the larger round one is not. Is it safe to say therefore that the amp is not at fault, nor the wiring, as it would be a case of both not working were that the case. And does anyone know if I can replace just the large round speaker, or would I have to replace the entire (two unit) entity? Many thanks for the replies so far. |

Yes, that is a safe assumption. Given that the mid-range speaker is getting enough current to operate, it can only really be either a mechanical/electrical failure of the bass driver's voicecoil (they can overheat, distort and the former then get stuck so it doesn't move in and out freely) or possibly the crossover network component(s) (the capacitor that has already been referred to and possibly an inductor too).
