Not in the slightest...I'm only surprised that ANY customer received the price quoted.!!!

Yeah, I read this earlier. What amazes me is how anyone would be desperate enough to accept there first offer, let alone allow themselves to be beaten down in price up to a further 25%.

They offer stupidly low "valuations" in the first place.

They had an office at the same building as my company in Colchester. Got to hear some pretty juicy stories about their tactics and way of dealing.

Even a small chip or scratch would reduce their offer by at least £500!

The other side of the Coin!

In late 2008 i bought cash a 2006 3.0 CRD Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland on a 56 plate.
I bought it from a Jeep Main Dealer, was one owner and had done 21,000 miles .Originally it's on the road price was £35k and i bought it for £14k. It was immaculate.
In July 2010 i decided i wanted an S60 D5 and made the decision to sell my Jeep privately and then go armed with cash for the Volvo.

After having a good look at what these vehicles were being advertised for and more importantly selling for i had a very good idea as to what to expect for the car.

I tried webuyanycar.com and their valuation was £11,100.

I then tried we will buy your car .com and their valuation was £12,900.

I arranged for the latter to attend for a valuation/purchase based on my VERY ACCURATE DESCRIPTION

They attended on time and spent an hour going over it with a fine tooth comb. The guy admitted that the description had left nothing unmentioned and on that basis the original valuation would stand should i choose to accept it. He went on to say that this was rare as many people failed to mention major defects/deamage and then got P****D off at revised valuations.

I accepted and the cash was transferred via chaps into my account whilst they waited. They drove off with my Jeep and returned to the door minutes later.
The driver had in his hand the tax disc and a form to cash it in ( value over £200 ) stating that this was for me.
Trade plates fitted and off they went.

3 days later, cash in hand, i bought ( privately ) my one owner 2006 S60 D5SE, 51,000 miles and MINT. SUPERB spec including sunroof ,phone, bi xenon etc etc for £1600 under the already sensible asking price and have never seen one cheaper than what i paid. This was possible due to the fact that i had sold my car easily and at VERY good money, having lost £900 in 2 years.

Got to speak as you find.

Darryl

Who'd have thunk it. Slightly dubious business model and customers who don't read the small print.

Pity they can't get a slap on the wrists for those horrendous adverts.

Erm, unless I'm missing something, you're agreeing with the other posts??

WBAC in effect offered you £1800 less than the other lot who you chose to sell the car too? So they ran true to form, and basically tried to fleece you - yes?

Nothing short of crooks, if you ask me. I was needing to sell a car a few years ago and they in effect offered me about £3k less than it sold for. And when that is only on a £9k sale price, that's a third..... Crooks!

No your not missing anything, my opening line was " The other side of the coin".

My point is that it is so easy to group any of these set ups under the same banner ie crooks.

All i can say is that i got a good price for my car without having a succesion of timewasters and dreamers banging on the door.

I also believe that some peoples idea of an accurate description is not mine hence why they get offered crap money.

At the end of the day no one held a gun to their heads and forced them to accept just the same as a private buyer turning up and offering WAY below the asking price because the car is NOT AS DESCRIBED.

I wonder how much a main dealer would have offered you for the same car as a straight purchase without buying anything???

Simples!

Ah right, I get it now.... I thought from the opening line that you were defending WBAC, but you're not!! Thankfullt that cleared that up!

And as for their adverts, I agree 100% with a previous post - anybody associated with those adverts should be taken outside, lined up against a wall, and shot. Absolutely bloody terrible!
