Hi, I am fitting a towbar to my 144. I know that i need a splitter for runing the fridge and battery charging. What about the lights. Which if any relay do I need?

Default Relays

You can buy towing relays at pretty well any motor factors or accessory shop even Halfrauds.

Just follow the instructions (with a few exceptions).

You MUST have at least a (fused at the battery end) 30 amp feed for the cable that will power the fridge when towing and charge the battery when towing. Er - almost always.

Pre-1984 caravans had a different arrangement and only needed one connector and could tolerate a lower feed current for the fridge. If you have a pre-1984 caravan panic and google. There is a way to wire so that with two connectors you can tow both pre-84 and post 84 vans.

Subject to the pre-84 van problem, there is another trick suitable for post '84 vans that parallels two pins for the earth so you don't get earth pin burnout. Again Mr Google is your friend.

Our Masters Which Art in Brussels however have come up with an invention of the devil that is a different shape and has I think 13 pins, all too small, and is a nightmare...

Good luck.
