4 zone climate control

Is this really worth £550?'Does it offer anything other than allowing rear seat passengers the ability to change their temperatures?

It brings a wee touchscreen for the rear seat and if you’ve got heated rear seats it controls those too.

You also get a flap in the glovebox that can let in cold air and cool that.

Its a kids gadget.

It vastly improves the look of the back of the centre console, which to me does not look nice in standard form.

My rationale behind having 4-zone climate control is that

- as a driver I don’t want to be constantly bugged by rear seat passenger(s) to make them feel comfortable climate-wise
- it definitely enhanced the look of the rear side of the tunnel console
- cooled glove box

As to the question of whether it is worth £550, it is subjective and in my case it is a price I was willing to pay to have the above benefits.

Definitely improves the look from the rear! The console can look quite plasticky without it.

I actually went for the 7 seat comfort pack as I wanted the third row air conditioning and C pillar vents to increase airflow there to reduce travel sickness for kids in the 3rd row. I find having these vents makes a massive difference for my kids. In fact this was one of the reasons I chose an XC90 over a Q7 as that can't be optioned with third row vents.

Now the powerfolding headrests that come with the 7 seat comfort pack are something I haven't yet found a practical use for!

Happy to stand corrected on this by someone who has 4 zone climate, I don't. But I thought it also gives you additional air vents in the rear of the centre console, like most cars built until this day have as standard. Without 4-zone, the XC90 doesn't have centre air vents like this, only smallish ones in the b-pillar and the footwell ones under the fronts seats, which in my opinion is pretty poor.

Yes 4 zone does have adjustable centre vents in the rear of tunnel console as well as the normal B post vents.

I went for the 4-zone climate firstly to make life in the back more pleasant for our daughter but, equally, I just love how that little screen just lifts the rear of the car, especially at night when illuminated. Gives me a buzz evert time i look at it (yep i know its sooooooo sad)

Have decided to add this to the spec. As my budget was for premium metallic and have gone for mussel blue then this wont cost me much at all. (Gotta love man maths)

You also get footwell vents in the back and 3rd row vents. It’s worth it. Not 100% sure but I think you get two compressors so more powerful a/c. Note fan speeds only vary for front and back not for each zone - it’s not true 4 zones.
Unfortunately it does not delete volvo crazy climate logic (basically it knows better what you need - this means it will blast freezing air in your face at all times no matter the temperature setting).
