On the loan car I had the warning in the drivers display was a fuel pump with a tear drop on it.
I did not realise it was an adblue warning and was wondering why the low fuel light was on with quarter of a tank of fuel until I went to add fuel and noticed the adblue filler point next to the fuel filler, then the penny dropped.

Maybe I am being a bit simplistic here, but AdBlue is a mixture of urea and water; surely not too dissimilar to that produced by humans on a daily basis?
If your car won’t start because it has run out of AdBlue, I wonder how it would react if the tank was topped up with a pint or so of “alternative AdBlue”?

Thats what I told my son to do in his new Ł62k discovery but he was reluctant to do so for some reason. Think he must of been a bit shy.

You'd have to cling to the roof rails while the fire brigade drive you to A+E afterwards. Of course, they could just get out the "jaws of life"...

Just had a look at Wikipedia on the two subjects - Adblue and Urine and their respective Urea content.

The percentages in Adblue is 32.5%, in urine it is between 4 and 9%, with additional ingredients.
The water is Adblue is deionised, the water is not pure.

How high a percent of Urea is required in the Adblue tank in the car to trick the car into thinking that it has a suffiicient liquid in the tank to enable the engine to run would be interesting to know. Perhaps an interesting experiment to try during the final months use of a lease / hire car to try running it on 100% water in the Adblue tank.

Note - this is probably a very naughty experiment that could be very anti social.
I will not be trying this as I do not have an Adblue engine and I would not try it if I did have such an engine.

Not being funny - but if cars are made to HAVE to accept AdBlue to run correctly, or meet emissions standards - then surely Diesel isn't an appropriate fuel for a car?
Buses/Trucks/Vans - yes.

Cheers

Well that would be the case for petrol as well as they have had to adapt too, they have a cat and particulate filters now to meet ever tighter emission standards. As well as all the other sensors to regulate the fuel and valve timing etc for optimum efficiency. And what about electric vehicles where the emissions are produced at the power station instead. And now they are starting on rubber tyres because they say they cause particals to be emitted which all cars have. Once they get rid of cars they will start on shoes with rubber soles and the Co2 we expel when we breath.

Why? What's the problem as you see it? Personally I don't see an issue apart from the slight nuisance of having to top up the Adblue tank every fourth or fifth fill of the diesel tank.

As I see it - it’s an addition to make a Diesel engine “cleaner” by reducing nitrous emissions?
Why not fit the same car with a small petrol turbo engine? Petrol burns “cleaner” than diesel - it may produce more CO2, but as it’s been priced, that’s better than NO2 or N2O

Cheers
