Default V70 D5 - oil level low

Driving to pick my wife up Saturday night, on the way back cruising on the motorway in the 50mph roadworks I got a warning to say the oil level was low.

As soon as I got home I let the car cool down and checked the oil level and all seems normal on the dipstick. Just below the half way mark?

Starting the engine up again the warning has disappeared.
I've put some spare in the boot in case but no signs of oil leaking below the bonnet anywhere that I can see and with no oil seemingly having been lost judging by the dipstick, what could have caused this?

Could the oil have got a bit too thin with the hot weather and long drive? (Castrol Edge A5/B5 - last changed 9,000 miles ago)

Possibly early signs of level sensor failure or just a glitch in the system .Any other strange faults ? A failing battery can throw up all sorts of spurious messages. Check if any fault codes show up .

No other curious symptoms. Seems to be running fine so far.
Will have to invest in a VIDA system and get it plugged in!

What does the electronic level control say about the level? Bacause by dipstick I presume you mean the mechanical one.

should be just above half way on the dipstick ( 60% up the XXXXXXX scale )

They probably forgot to reset the oil level gauge when they changed the oil , top up about 1/3 litre and remind them to reset it when they change the oil next time ( 5.7 litres )
