2007 S60 road noise.
I have a 2007 S60 that is making a rumbling noise from 20 kmh on up. I've remived the wheels and checked brakes (pads and rotors appear fine), tires (worn but not irregular - tread is worn but not completely - no odd bumps or wavy tread patterns). The car tracks fine at speed. Noise is not engine or tranny related (noise does not change with gear changes, only road speed). Wheel bearings appear to be ok - no noticeable movement.
I'm stumped. Any suggestions or am I missing something? |

Mileage? AWD or FWD?
First off, go to a parking lot and do extremely tight turns (do circles if you can) in both directions and listen for a bad CV joint. It may click a bit or rhythmically. Jack up each corner in turn. Remove the wheel and rotate the hub and feel for roughness. Find level ground, chock a wheel so you can put it in N, no parking brake when doing the rears, use safety stands etc. When checking the front hubs run 2 lug bolts in and use a large screwdriver between them for leverage. Stick you fat head right in there and listen. AWD? I do not know if the bevel gear makes noise when it's fried but people have removed the center drive shaft when one goes bad. That's a little extreme for a test but you "gots to know". |
