Unhappy Seats

Thinking of changing my rather tired looking seats to a complete leather set from a breakers. Does anyone know if the electrics are in place for electrically adjusted seats as i currently have manual seats fitted. I can't see an obvious plug but may just be looking in the wrong place. Any ideas?

Hi

Firstly, can you post some pictures of your seats? They may be saveable!

You can clean and re-dye the leather easily... and it lasts, as long as you clean first.

I have used Ryan at http://www.dynamixdyes.com/ several times over the years - he will supply a mixed and ready to go dye for about £21 delivered - and if he does not have the correct colour, will mix some for you if you post him a wee sample - as I had to do for my Arena.

The above bottle will fix most typical interiors - there is enough for a magnitude of small repairs - not re-dyeing the whole interior.

You can get the foam replaced too - some manufacturers supply replacements and any vehicle upholsterer will be able to make you a replacement part.

I was going to write up a wee article on leather cleanup/repair but have not got around to it yet.

Given the cost of new leather.. what have you got to lose?

David

I have a tear in the drivers seat and stains (thank you kids!) on the rear and front seats so i just thought i'll upgrade to all leather rather than the 50/50 mix i have at the mo.

Hi

A tear can be professionally repaired or a new panel sewn in at a reasonable cost.

Re cleaning up - I always use Gliptone cleaner - applied in a spray bottle and use IKEA white face cloths to clean the seats (the cloths are "rough" so work well).

I would be surprised if the cleaner wont improve things way beyond your hope - just dont be tempted to use a nail brush or even - I think it was Meguires that said ok for leather - an "upholstery" brush.

The jury is out re leather conditioners - some say marketing hype... and that all you need to do is keep the leather clean (as its dirt and grit in the folds that eventually wear and spoil leather)...others like to apply a conditioner. As an aside, the argument is that modern leathers have a "paint like" finish, therefore no conditioner is going to penetrate it...so why bother...

Anyway - its got to be worth a go for the low cost.
