Default Gearbox/AWD question

Hi All,

I am going to look at a 55 plate XC90 tonight, its an auto non-D5 one with the 163bhp engine I think. Will it have the better 6 speed automatic or will it have the 5 speed auto? The local Volvo dealer said that the newer 185 XC90s had less of a hesitation issue not just because they had more power but because the gearbox and AWD were changed to prevent the hesitation issue. I am a bit worried about it as we have not yet test driven one and I don't want to regret purchasing a 163 - but there are so many about and they are so much cheaper than the 185s!

I bought a 185 earlier in the year, I went for the 185 because a friend had a 165 xc70 and complained about the delay with this engine, well i can confirm that my 185 does have this annoying delay, but it does have plenty of power , the 165 gives better fuel consumption as well ! the problem doesnt seem to be universal though, that I cant understand , its the all or nothing take off thats the problem, and only at low speeds , something you can try when you test drive, still love the car though

Mine is a 2005 MY D5 auto and has no issues with delay... hard to fault the car, so far.

Never noticed the delay issue as described. Mine only has delay if you are braking and then hit the accelerater. Which I have found driving other diesels and put down to turbo/throttle lag and the others were manuals though it only happened in them if the reves got below 1500 ish.
