Yes I removed those two bolts as well. Forgot about them as it's a while since I did the job!!!

Had another go earlier tried everything suggested and still couldn’t get it off, had to admit defeat which is annoying me more than anything.

And not to help matters lost a long torque bit in the mounting bracket that holds the alternator on tried to get it but no luck, took off the cover to the belts and tried to get it and managed to touch my fingers but still not there think it’s in a void between the block and the bracket.

It’s in the garage on Tuesday so will keep you posted.

I can confirm that a black hole exists inside the engine bay.

On my car it has swallowed a rubber engine cover grommet, never to be seen again.

If I drop something through the engine bay it usually turns up in next door's garden or somewhere equally unlikely!

Just got it back from the garage and it definitely revs more freely but probably helped cleaning the egr out, but will monitor the oil level over the next week as my wife has it for the next five days as I’m in work.

But will keep you updated next week and thanks for the help again.

Hi,
i think i am having trouble with my PCV as well, oil was coming out at the top valve cover, i replaced that, it stopped.
now it is coming from the right side of the engine( where the timing belt is) and it is coming a lot more.

So before i change the oil pump and the crankshaft pulley gaskets i think i should taka a look at the PCV.

i have the 185 hp D5 model, the PCV breather is on top of the filter housing.

is it enough tu buy and replace these new items ?
Breather ( does it do something or is it enough to clean ? )
2 Oil filter housing gaskets
oil dipstick oring

so i am thinking to remove the oil filter housing, remove the old breather, clean the dirt, clean the hoses, install everything back with new gaskets, breather and clamps, and then replace the timing belt side gaskets.

is it ok to do that or there are more to be done?

Best regards.

Hi,
i managed to replace the PCV valve, the hoses are clear, the oil filter housing was clear too.
Replaced the oil pump gaskets and orings, timing belt and serpentine belt while i was at it.

a few weeks ago i've replaced the valve cover gasket, i hope that there will be no more oil leaks.

The mechanic wants to change the valve cover gasket again (the original one this time, the last is Victor Reinz), he suggests changing the plastic top valve cover as well just in case but the one on the car is in perfect shape, no cracks or ondulations and it's pretty damn expensive.

the last i checked the swirl ( 2 months ago) it looked fine, no play in the plastic plugs, the arm is clean and ok but very much gunk behind them in the intake.gunk that they touch whe you move it.

Any ideeas ?
