Talking Two Tone Amazon Project 2-door

Hi Ya Folks

well most of you will know i have neared the end of my amazon white project so thought i would post a new build thread for a Two Tone california white & black roof 1965 Volvo Amazon , Two door with B18 + OverDrive fitted with some modern extras like the seat conversion which i will go into more depth in a week or so to help other members locate and modify it to fit correctly , also fitted the seat belts all handy info if you wish to go down this path with a amazon build.

but basicaly this car is being built to a good spec so it can handle modern motoring in comfort for example full electric seats up/down/forward/back tilt but when we test fitted the interior it just looked fantatsic and so i have it documented we even made a custom rear parcel shelve which i will be fitting also in a week or so photos to follow then but it will have a rally look to this car with lots of bling ( yes the chrome dash i posted a few months back is going to be used in this build )

so a few images to kick this thread into start mode the car does need a good clean as we pulled it out of dry storage and pushed it into my workshop to crack on with it

i will have some fun with this build im sure along the way this is one of the cars that was rescued from chris harts yard in putney it had been started all re painted but due to being open to the elements it needed doing again and lots of parts was missing so we have got the bits needed and its time to get this one back on the road fit for use but this car will be for sale when its finished shortly in new year

Kind Regards

Robert.W

Good luck with that one Robert. I think it is very hard to pull off getting modern seats to look good in an Amazon.

Looks like a good project you have there – I have a question for you though: how have you mounted the seat runners?

I have a pair of aftermarket seats in my Amazon and I’ve mounted them onto the original subframes using 10mm alloy bar to make up spacers as the runners on the new seat is wider than the Volvo subframe.

I’d like to be able to mount them a bit further back as I’m pretty tall and a bit more leg room would come in very handy. I can’t really tell from your pics how exactly you’ve gone about mounting the new runners onto the floorpan of your car... any info or extra images you could supply would really be appreciated.

(I think the seats look bang on by the way!)

Thankyou redcar they have come out real nice and feel smooth when you rub them like , now to answer the questions to get a pair of the door cards just have two new or very smart door cards and get some velvet grey material which can be covered to suit the style of the original cards but i think with the material and upholster costs it worked out £130 for the pair plud costs of the panels so not cheap but was needed to match the style of seats we had .

about the long things , they are rear panel cappings due to having a longer rear panel than is required from the c-70 so we scribbed them in and trimed back to use those cappings which where made out of wood they have now been trimed with a velvet material matching the seats to finish off the rear panels just where the front seat belts hang .
i will take images prior to fittment & when i fit them so its all explained i see odd posts about this conversion in the past and knew it was possible just never could find a detailed post so hence the way i will do this build thread stuff like this will be explained in detail to helps others.

The front seats had a custom plate made which was bolted to the old amazon seat frames by doing it this way non of the car was harmed in the process so all can be reverted back to oem , i will post better images by the weekend for you showing what has been used and i can take some diemsions down to share with everyone

in the image above you can see the metalwork that has been bolted into the car and this is what will hold down the centre seat belts & rear headrests and stable`ize the rear parcel shelve ( with built in speakers ) all will become clear when i post on that section of the conversion ....

Thank you as well bud they do look fantastic but i have seen them all fitted including the rear parcel shelve and it blew my mind it just flowed so nice i will defo be doing another few projects like this again using the same system you wait till you see it fitted within the next few weeks !!
the only issue atm is the front drivers seat needs re upholstering and the guy we used for the door panels is due a op on his hip so i might have to take it over to my guy that did the white amazon seats ( red seats in my last build thread ) he is just as good but we always use a few so if we get let down by one we have a backup plan a plan B is always a good thing

more on this should follow quickly after the weekend as im on carpentry work this week putting sides in on a barn it helps pay for my personal projects if only we did`nt need to worry about money hey ....

regards

robert

dunno Mitch, i have the C70 interior in my car and it looks pretty good imho. the fact the headrests are so recognisably Volvo, means most people think they are the originals.. (apart from you lot)

the front seats are bigger though, so egress from the rear can be a little unladylike..

as for this build, Robert, looks like its going to be pretty special.

yeah me and dad was sat there and i had been telling him i was wanting to try a c70 conversion low and behold we was called round to a amazon rescue and bought the car and what did the guy have on his drive a sweet looking c70 he said it was real nice but way way to expensive to run it so he was after the wheels and thats it game over for it so dad looked at me and said is that the interior i said yup before i could check me pockets he had done the deal and i was instructed to pull the interior out of the car on the spot and load it in the transit van was funny as hell we was like yeah lets have this part that part , parcel shelve yeah why not it is going to cost us no more money as we had the whole interior which to me was the lot ! so i wangled the dash trim off each side ( thankyou thats going in my estate as i will scribe it in and make a radio centre console to patch them together tastefully .
dad looked at me shall we have the seat belts yeah i said lets have them you never know least they will fit into the seats the rear headrest were complete pains to free off the donor car lol such fun was had it was unreal we was like a pair of kids in a sweet shop and this is the result a nice conversion which will all come together and hopefully fit the look of the car we aim for retro amazon with some bling fit to rally with comfort !

hopefully draw in some new blood on the amazon models as it will appeal to a younger driver but i would drive it with no qwarms

regards
robert
