I've just had have a new steering lock in the v50 which required Volvo software programming at a specialist with VIDA. Cost £530 all in. I just don't want to get rid of the v50 then have these electrical/programming issues all over again with another car. But I guess that's volvos in general what reviews and what others say?

Default worst volvo ever

I have a 2008 C70 and its been the worst volvo to date, its my 3rd.
Its already got bad rust on both front wheel arches, Ive had the gearbox replaced, the alarm goes off regularly for no reason, the engine warning light keep finding issues that means I have to take it to volvo everytime and it hasnt yet reached 89,000miles. On the plus side.... the roof has never failed. But then it is the ford engine.....

My 2008 C70 D5 also had many issues. My thoughts similar to Mellie really, the engine and manual gearbox seem to be excellent, as you would expect from Ford ;-)
In all seriousness I think I've had every common problem under the sun:

Leaking boot, both right and left side.
AM gone on the radio.
Tyres step very quickly.
Driver window winder cable snapped and nearly caused the roof to buckle as it failed when closing the roof.
Engine system service from oil level being high.
Bi Xenon ballast failure.
Air conditioning condenser failure.
Anti skid service required - another very common problem.
Alarm system service required but at least it doesn't go off on its own anymore.
Both front A arms replaced - bushes worn.
Broken front spring.

Probably some other things but forgotten now. Lovely car, but many niggly issues.

Oil level!!

That just about decides it for me. Sick of having to take my v50 back after every oil change for it having to be adjusted due to that error. Not having that with another car.

Volvo - by making your cars so complex and reliant upon electrics you have officially put me off! :-)
