Need Advice Before Purchasing 2010 XC90 V6 AWD
Hi everyone,
A friend has a 2010 XC90 V6 AWD with 220K Km on the odo, and wants to sell it. I am considering buying it. Can you please give me all the general and the specific problems of this car? My concerns would be related to: -*Reliability, which I heard is not as same as the good old bricks like the 240s and 740s. - Rust: I don't see any rust on the panels but I still have to look under the car. - Engine timing. I have been bitten by the timing belt breaking before. Does this car have a timing belt or chain? - Gas mileage: can this V6 be so bad? - interior rattle: does this apply to this model? Please let me know what to look for before I buy this car.* Thanks, Ezzo |

Quote:
- Reliability is as good as any competitor model if not better, the 3.2 is normally aspirated and many engine/limp mode issues are turbo related. - Rust is not an issue on XC90 (or other post 2000 Volvo) - MPG about average for a 2.2T 3.2 4x4 with auto. i.e. not good FYI it's a straight 6 not a V6.

Is it a T6. If it is I believe it has as timing chain, not a belt, but they also have a reputation for eating gearboxes.

I could be wrong, but I think the T6 2.9 - with the troublesome gearbox - was replaced by a 3.2 in 2006 and a much better, more reliable box that could take the power.

[QUOTE=ezzo;2468407]Hi everyone,
A friend has a 2010 XC90 V6 AWD with 220K Km on the odo, and wants to sell it. I am considering buying it. - Engine timing. I have been bitten by the timing belt breaking before. Does this car have a timing belt or chain?Definitely chain drive. When the upgrade was made to 3.2 inline six the 'front end auxiliary drive' was swapped to the rear end of the motor and basically overhangs the transmission Losing the fead meant the motor could be moved right to get the speed AW transmission in; a quick search for TF80sc will show that the valve body wears out whether it's fitted in a Volvo, Ford, GM or Japanese vehicle. I bought a new 2010 3.2 and the fuel consumption over 129000 miles is 21.2 miles per imperial gallon with individual tankfulls ranging from 18.5 to 26 mpg |

^^^ What he said - the 3.2 is a similar engine but with no turbo, and has the *much* more reliable and refined 6-speed TF80 gearbox as used in the post '05 diesels and V8.
