Wheel Change
So after some great advice on here I am going ahead with buying a set of 18" or 19" wheels with winter tyres.
18" £1150, 19" £1400. 'Great' says I. 'Ah' says Volvo, 'you will need a software update each time you change the wheels which costs £52.50'. So another £100 per year in running costs The circumference of my current wheels is 236cm, the 18" = 232cm and the 19" = 233cm. Each of those will vary by up to 5cm as the tyres wear. So my question is, is the software reset just the slight change in circumference and so I can just ignore it or is there something I am missing? (I have asked Volvo who have yet to fully explain...)

Did your tyre width change? (Mine are going from 275 to 235)

Yes they got wider, as far as I was aware the car self calibrates, certainly my dealership has never said a word. I’m sure dealerships can occasionally be like Kwik Fit of old and just tell you anything.

Can I just ask is the 1400 quid the nokian WR4 package from the Volvo dealer? Or aftermarket?
Btw I too think the software calibration comment is bull****.....

As I’m only front wheel drive I’m just getting two fronts, pretty sure they’re Nokian, £175 each fitted for 255/35 R20, I think that’s the size my current tyres are. Sod’s law states that we will see not a drop of snow for the next 2 yrs!!

Just do a tyre pressure monitor calibration after changing wheels or tyres, you do this yourself in sensus.
Check tyre pressures are all correct first.

I had a set of 19" rims and tyres fitted to my XC60 from the OEM 21" Garage did it, straight swap, and just calibrate the Sensus TPMS

That sounds like a recipe for trouble - that’ll get you moving for sure but you’re running the risk of a loose back end under steering or braking due to uneven grip.
