DIM Display only works at night
Hello
Got an issue where the display on my DIM works intermittently, so was going to get it rebuilt (if anyone has recommendations of places that do it this would be appreciated) as I was having issues with some illuminators being intermittent anyway. However I have noticed that at night it works. I know these dashes detect when it is day/night to up the LCD brightness in day time, so I am wondering if this is related. Or it could just be a coincidence. I have started to note when it works and when it doesn't. I have not scanned this yet but will do it tonight. Any advice appreciated. Thanks |

Speak with these guys https://volvodiagnostic.com
Your model year is bang in the middle of the years which suffer common DIM issues. They ^^^^^ normally do a fix for less than £100 including postage both ways.

Thanks!
Do you think this sounds like that will be the fault rather than something more in depth? |

The symptoms vary but yours are among the many reported ones.
Mine had the same 3 years ago along with no high beam tell-tale light and occasional garbled text in the information window. I suppose other things are possible but on a 2002, a failing DIM is the most likely. You could also individually pull the tiny grain of rice bulbs out of the back and realign the wires to restore correct contact and measure the resistance to see if they're blown.

Sorry if I'm saying something that you will probably have tried but ... have you tried adjusting the panel illumination setting with the control on the light switch panel to the right of the dash?
