Default Possible transmission issue, help needed

Hey everyone, I have a 08 xc90 and just recently the shifter starts to slide from Drive to manual. It feels like it’s a lot of play in the shifter but I don’t know what it could be. I’m hoping it’s something simplistic and not the transmission but I know I’m tired of holding the shifter in the drive position while I’m driving. Has anyone else ran into this issue? Any advice would be greatly appreciate!

Don't worry, it won't be the gearbox itself. Something has likely broken inside the selector assembly.

Options are to source a working replacement from a breaker and swap it over in its entirety, or remove and dismantle the existing unit to determine the cause of the failure. Many of the likely culprit components (e.g. the plastic locking arm) are available from a Volvo dealer. Both are within the capability of a competent weekend mechanic.
