Nearly here
The Amazon estate i bought from a dealer in South Africa has been waiting for the DVLA to give me a registration which has now happened UCA716D.
Hopefully collecting next week as the importer is giving it the once over prior to my drive home (about 100 miles). I have insured with Chris Knott and need to get a agreed valuation. Does anyone know who or how i can get this done. Thanks in advance and i'll upload some pics when i get it home. |

Jack;
Welcome to this forum! Congrats on your acquisition! If you need a statement of value for the purpose of insuring it, I'd visit a garage intimately familiar with the Amazon (maybe your lucky and that outfit who does the vintage Volvo videos on YT is near you...), and have them evaluate your vehicle, write a statement of value, and use that in negotiations with your insurer. The Amazons are great, if not already familiar with the weaknesses of this model, which develop after this long, I recommend taking advantage of those who have gone before you who have learned about and addressed them..installing a Momentary Start Switch to prevent Ign Key breakage, see: https://www.sw-em.com/Broken%20Vinta...tion%20Key.htm ), also depending on year of the car, and type of Brake Light Switch installed, checking Brake Light function often, see: https://www.sw-em.com/safety_bulletin_1.htm I invite you to check out other SW-EM.com tech articles which cover some of the subtle issues which come up after 50+ years (those darned Volvos just don't last!). Enjoy your Swedish oldie, and Cheers! |

Valuation:-
If I were you I'd contact the insurance company you wish to use, I don't know for sure how it is in the UK any more (been gone a long time) but here in Holland some insurance companies are picky about who does the valuation. Last time I looked here in (little) Holland there were two competing bodies. It is a shame to spend money on a valuation only to be told by the insurance company that the valuation isn't the right kind. In the good old days - back in the day - some UK insurance companies would agree a fixed value on the basis of photographs under a limt of what ever it was but I have no idea if that's still the case. EDIT:- Be wary about use of classic vehicles. Some policies won't insure you if you go to work in your classic for example. Classic cxar insurance has gone really picky - as for many other insurance situations it seems like the game is "not pay out if you can"...

I have agreed values on three classic cars:~ two Volvo- one Riley.
Bishop Calway-Peter S Taylor. https://www.bishopcalway.co.uk/ Straight forward and all they required was a full description plus photographs of all the car-Exterior-Interior etc. Most company's will have the car market values on file and I believe that Hagerty is used:~ https://www.hagerty.co.uk/valuation/ you can do the same for further guidance. Recently made an adjustment to the Riley cover as the market had changed and it became under insured- again the above procedure used without any problems. As previously advised I would avoid paying for an independent valuation until you know what the Insurance requirements are. Good Luck Bob. |

I had an agreed value with my insurers, Peter James Insurance, but the mechanic who serviced my Amazon felt I was underselling myself and advised to get in touch with insurers to increase agreed value, confirm that if anything happened to my car I would be able to buy it back and that the cherished Reg. No. would continue in my name.
They sent me a Specialist Vehicle Form which I completed and sent off a number of pictures of the car and Peter James fixed it. Easy. Good luck with your car. |

Good point regarding the "Buy Back" terms:~ the company I mention also includes this within classic car cover.

The only comment that I have is to echo Army's point about contacting your insurer and finding out whether they have a requirement or a preference for who does the valuation. I have agreed value insurance for my 142 and the insurance company was very specific about who they would accept a valuation from.
