Default S80 Door mirror with a mind of its own

Good morning all,

I recently purchased an 08 S80 2.0D with a wholesome 66k miles,

Loving it so far but have developed an i threshing fault with the nearside door mirror.

Upon acceleration the mirror points at the sky, when you let off it comes back to rest again,

The harder you accelerate the faster and further it moves up, absolutely stumped.

At motorway cruising speeds it just remains pointing up the whole time

I had a look but couldn't find a thread for the same problem, has anybody encountered this before?

TIA

Tom

Yes, I had similar. It turned out that the glue holding the mirror was in the process of failing. I gently removed the mirror and replaced it using Gorilla double sided adhesive tape. Now it seems as good as gold.
WARNING...
Two things, firstly when replacing the mirror, remember that there is absolutely no play for fine adjusting, so it's "everything forwards and trust in the lord" When it's on, it's on. No taking it off for another go!
Secondly, I have never used this product before. I did the job this July, nearly 4 months ago. I can report "so far so good" but nothing further. Will it last? Only time will tell (or another member)

As mentioned above, its the glue that holds the mirror in place that simply breaks down over the years & that causes the mirror to flap around. Gorilla double sided tape works, but there's also spray adhesive that you can buy that work well too.

The mirror should come away from the old glue easy enough. There's a small gap between the mirror & the plastic casing. I used a key, put it through the small gap & used the key as leverage to release the mirror (mine had a retaining clip on the back of it, but that alone wasn't enough to hold it in place without some form of glue). Be gentle, as there's wiring behind the mirror for the heater element (your car will have heated mirrors, presumably). The glue holding my mirror was basically non-existent, but there were still traces of it. I cleaned the old stuff off before applying the new adhesive, just so there was a clean surface to help it stick better.
