Default 08 xc90 tow bar electrics not working

Apologies if this had been covered I found some posts with conflicting answers !
Yesterday I purchased a 2008 xc90 with a tow bar installed and the new type (13 pin) electric point. Once home I plugged in my trailer and nothing works (trailer lights all working in other vehicles)
Does a tow bar install need to be put through the car software to work ?
Thanks Daniel

It depends on how it has been wired. The best way is via the trailer module, which then integrates it to the car. If it has a universal towbar loom there is no telling what has been done.

I'd take it back to the seller

Ok thanks. It’s all plugged in properly to the fuse panel in the boot. Iced checked all fuses too. I spoke to the sell this morning also. See what he says

If trailer lights are all not working, then it cannot be fuses.

Reason: each light is controlled by different fuses, so blinkers, brake lights, taillights, fog lights, reversing lights: they are all on differently fused circuits.

But the common point is the ground wire(s)
On a 13p plug there are two grounds. Check them for continuity using multimeter.

Thanks now in daylight I’ve traced the loom and it appears the trailer module is missing. I have 2 spare plugs sitting out ! Phoned my local Volvo and hopefully can get it next week now. Hopefully there is no sinister reason for it not been there !
Thanks again
