Default Map update OTA

Received a prompt for a software update on the Sensus just now thought nothing of it and it must be updates to the app's as normal. Just looked at the download centre and realised it is the map updating and now installing.

Did the OTA update go smoothly? Was it easier / less painful than downloading to a USB and then sitting in the car whilst it updated?

Was your car connected to your home network or was it using its own SIM card? I'd rather mine didn't try a 40Gb download when my monthly limit is 25Gb.

Lots of questions!

Everything went ok, I use my mobile phone as the hotspot (EE 30gb data p/m) and the download was done within about 15 minutes. It must be around 1.5gb at a guess going by my data allowance on the EE app. The installation however was alot slower probably about 45 minutes in total, you could use the sat nav during this time as well as break the journey (2 seperate journeys for me) and the installation finalised when the car was exited and locked up once installation was complete.

Very good point about data usage though, is there an on / off option?

Not in front of Sensus at the minute, but under Software Update -> Maps, I'm pretty sure you select 'auto update' or similar for each individual map region.

I updated my map today through the car's sim. The Sensus system informed be before the download what the size of it was. I believe it was something like 185 megabytes, certainly a fraction of the 2gig mentioned in a post above.

Incidentally what maps do we get with a UK delivered car? I am a regular European traveller and will certainly need the Central Euro maps.

From what I have read about the functionality of the sat nav I am almost tempted to keep my trusty Garmin plug in with me in the new car!!

You get UK maps as standard but there is a whole great big list of world maps available in the system to download, and you can do so using either the car's own modem or use your phone as a wifi hotspot for your car to connect to. As far as I know you just choose a map and click to download. What happens from there is for you to find out. Whether you need to then choose a map or whether it just loads automatically into Sensus when you enter the new area? I'm very unlikely to need to find out.
