Default V60 d3 (5 cylinder) exhaust gasket manifold issue and fittin

Hi all.

I have been getting a high pitched whistle noise coming from my v60 especially from cold. I have had it inspected at a local specialist and have been informed that the is a leak coming from the exhaust gasket manifold. I have been informed to leave things for now as it is not causing any other issues and it does get better when the engine is up to temperature therefore likely sealing the leak. If this does need to be replaced in the future is sounds like a very labour intensive job with approx cost £700! Does anyone know if it is possible to access the exhaust manifold to either seal or replace the gasket without having to take the turbo off etc?

Thanks

Marc

I had this exact same problem some years ago with a V6 Vauxhall Omega.
The symptoms were a loud ticking noise from a cold start which gradually improved until the engine had warmed up. I did eventually get it fixed and discovered that the leak had occurred in the narrowest part of the gasket width, with the expansion of the metal when hot closing the gap.
I’d leave it if I were you. It might be a bit irritating- but at least you know the reason & know it’s not doing any real harm. Just take it for an MOT when it’s hot & all should be ok.
