There is a special tool from Volvo that looks like a screwdriver bent into the shape of a fish hook you slide underneath and pull up on each corner. Volvo part number is 999-5919-46. I made my own.

Any definitive answer to this? my own sat nav screen is blank, having the same difficulty removing the trim.

Hi
ok so
after removing the grill it is mostly straight forward. Unscrew/ torx this and there you go.
after I removed the whole unit I just disabled it and cleaned all wires/ connections/ cogs.
After putting the unit together it worked like a charm. I guess it was just old/dirty

Thanks for the info, however like the OP I can't seem to figure out how to remove the plastic trim, really don't want to damage anything by forcing something, I did try with a trim removal tool however nothing seemed to move.

I did it with force and after that I had to do some detailing as I damaged a bit of the metal mesh :/

Finally got the grill off using a trim removal tool, thankfully no damage, must say though the clips holding it get one hell of a hold, onto fleabay now to find a screen.

Yeah I used removal tools as well but scratched it anyways :/ in regards to the screen - try to clean all the connections my screen looked like completely damaged
