Tailgate stuck closed
Hello,
I have an issue with my MY12 V70. No matter which button I use, the tailgate will not open. I tried the button on the dash, on the key and on the tailgate itself. All of them are registered, I can hear a relay click near my glove box but I hear nothing at the tailgate. The fuse for the lock is fine, that is to say that the fuel filler cap opens just fine via the dash, as far as I could see this is the same fuse. The fuse for the automatic tailgate is also OK (I checked all fuse located in the boot behind the cover. All other functions of the tailgate are also fine (wiper + fluid, all licht incl licence plate, defrost etc etc There appears to be nothing stuck between the tailgate and the car. Is there anything else I should try? I have already gone through many topics before posting, but I can't seem to find someone with the same fault. I have tried removing the trim, of course first removing the interior handle with the 2 torx screws, but I'm afraid to break it. The fact that the entire boot is filled with a 65“ TV also isn't making it any easier...... I hope someone can help me out here. Kind regards, Koen Last edited by Koenvds; Dec 2nd, 2019 at 08:34. |

I had the same last Friday, except that on mine the heated rear screen and wiper didn't work and while driving a warning message was flickering on and off on the dash telling me the boot was open.
It was when it was pretty chilly so I put it down to moisture getting into that big set of cables between the tailgate and car and probably freezing. A bit disappointing on a car from Sweden! Anyway, it's still under extended warranty and going to the dealer next week to check. Fingers crossed there's a fault code showing. These V70s, do seem to have issues with doors and locks. Mine is now on it's 3rd passenger side rear door lock and 2nd drivers side. Fine while under warranty but not good if it continues afterwards. |

I’ve had a similar fault on my 2008 V70. Mine was reporting open constantly. I bought a whole new lock (brand new) and then didn’t actually need it! In the end it was the loom in the headlining in the rear. I took out the rear light, there’s a 8mm boot underneath. Took this out and then the panel can be pulled off. There’s two connections here. I took apart both and sprayed electrical cleaner on all pins and plugged back together. All sorted! I did remove the carpeted panel on the tailgate/trunk and removed the lock but none of this was necessary or needed. If you do take off the panel and you have keyless, watch out...there’s an aerial connection on the panel and it’s quite delicate. Needs unclipping first. |

Thanks for the information. After being stuck for 2 days the tailgate decided to open up again last night. I immediately removed all the trim and checked the wire harness and all the connectors. Nothing was wet, corroded or loose. I did not have any contact cleaner but I'll get some and use it on the contacts just to make sure that there is nothing wrong there. In the meantime I'll open and close it at least once a day. I'm kinda hoping it comes back so I can take it to the dealer for diagnostics. I use the trunk a lot, most of it stuff that's time sensitive and can't be taken out through the doors, so this kind of thing can become a big issue pretty fast for me I'll keep you posted if there are any developments. |

When nothing else works in the tailgate, and you get false tailgate open warnings, it's usually the ground connection in the plug at the rear end of the roof, going into the tailgate, that's at fault.
When everything else works, but you can't open the tailgate, it's usually the lock itself that's at fault. |

So it's probably the lock for me then? Do you know where I can find the part number, or do you happen to know it? Either way thanks for the info. |

The connector is inside the rubber hose thing that houses the wiring going between the roof and the tailgate.
Yes, most likely the problem is the switch in the lock that's supposed to tell that the gate can be opened. |
