Default Boot open... no it’s not!

Hi all. After many years away from the brand we bought a V50 a few years back and last night an almost matching V70!

Really pleased with it but I have two issues

1. Boot is reporting open when it’s firmly shut. This is preventing me from locking the car with the remote. I can’t “force” lock it as I have the keyless PCC remotes. It’s a powered boot and the close button doesn’t work, I assume because it’s stuck in open/opening mode?

I’ve managed to lock the car for now by winding down the drivers window, using the internal lock buttons and then using the remote to put the windows up again. This though doesn’t appear to (as expected) set the alarm!

Any thoughts please people?

Second issue (and the reason I didn’t see the “open” boot warning was it was hidden behind other messages on the trip/info.

The indicator function works fine but the read/reset/scroll do nothing.

Does it sound likely I can just swap this stalk for another working one?

Thanks everyone, it’s good to be back....or at least will be when I can secure my new to me car!!

Check that the manual boot release handle is not sticking, bit of lube usually sorts it......pull to open then you release it, but if it don't go back to it's home position it will I think cause your problem.
Sorry. can't help you with the stalk problem.

One of the more common reasons for this is that the ground connection in the plug(s) at the rear end of the roof is broken. It's too small to handle the current properly. Sometimes it breaks more than once in the same car.
It did break in my car. I fixed it by adding a secondary ground wire outside the connectors, as repairing these sometimes is just a temporary issue.

If that's the case, then nothing in the boot lid works. Licence plate lights, wiper, illumination in the close button etc. will not work.

Thus it's pretty easy to check these other functions to verify if this is your problem.

Just updating this. It WAS the rear loom at fault. Took the rear headlining down and disconnected the multi plugs. Used some electrical cleaner and reconnected them. It’s been pretty much sorted every since!

I still have the stalk issue. Swapped it for another one and I now have scroll and reset which both work but OK/READ still doesn’t work! Will have to buy yet another stalk!

Just shy of £60 from the dealer for a new stalk, replaced mine in January.
