Default V50 Tailgate Strut - Rust

Hi,

I bought my V50 from Jefferies Farm (for those who live in West Sussex you'll know who they are) in Feb this year. It's an 08 reg with only 1k on teh clok and I've been really pleased with it! It was an upgrade from a Pug 206 :P

I noticed the other day that the right tailgate strut was developing rust on it. It's still got a warranty on it so I've taken it to the Volvo Garage near me and they have told me that it was scratched and it will cost me to replace. Now, I did not see any scratches when I bought the car nor have I scratched it myself. I'm assuming Jeffries Farm just did a good job of hiding it with paint or something. :/

So, It's not covered under warranty and I'm not that clued up on cars so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas how I could go about repairing it as I know the Volvo garage will charge me a stupid amount of money to fix/replace it. Would it need replacing?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Heinrich

Have you been back to the dealer?

You could always visit a different Volvo dealer and see if you get a different answer.

Hi Joe,

Sorry for the late reply!

Yeah, I took it to the volvo dealer and they told me I somehow scratched it and would charge me to replace it. I strongly feel that the scratch was there when I bought the car but it was covered up!

I might leave it for now until I can find the time to replace it if needed. I doubt another dealer will do anything different.
