Default Anti Squeal shim For front.

Hello,

Have just (700 miles ago) had new front pads and disks fitted and the squeal is driving me mad. I have read other threads about fitting anti squeal shims, but can only find them listed for the rear. Do volvo do shims for the front??

Any ideas on how to get rid of the noise??

Is it the type of pad? Mintex c-tech. Has anyone else had problems with these??

Thanks

Andy.

Yes someone has, they posted on the 40/50 forum about this a while back (can't be bothered to dig out the post and sorry fella I can't remember who you were off the top of my head!) but basically the mintex should have an anti-squeal sticky rubber on the outer pad which should have come with them, is this missing? Any shims / fitting springs etc. should be obvious because when you swapped pads you'd see them fitted to the old ones (if applicable).

Cheers,
Pete

Hi, I've not had anti-squeal shims on either of my 850's and not had a problem, so presumably it is peculiar to those pads. You could try a smear of copper grease on the back of each pad, this sometimes helps, but just a smear, not too much.

For the S40 these sort of pads required this, apparantly. Don't put copper slip on the rubber bit of course!

Hello,

Have had a check of the pads today. Seems the garge that did the job did not put on the Mintex shims. Have contacted mintex, who are sending a set to me.

Now i have to try to fit them myself.!!!!!!!!!! Bugger.

Will see if it does the job and let you all know.

BTW, how important is it to do the the allen bolts up to the correct torque?? The ones that hold the brake piston to the caliper?? Do I need to get a torque wrench to do the job??

Thanks,

Andy.

I had squealing problem too - relacing pads with genuine volvo pads solved all problems. not a peep from them since. The volvo front pads have shims attached, although you need to get the seperate pin and spring kit for the rear pads.
