1.6 diesel strange injector issue
Hi guys
My car is a 2014 Volvo V40 D2 1.6 Powershift. It had the engine management light on and also the esc light I think it was. It ran very lumpy, misfiring etc. it was undriveable. Anyway I plugged my Autocom diagnostic reader and it gave a code related to cylinder 4 injector. After googling and reading this forum it pointed to an injector problem. I purchased a reconditioned injector and installed it. Instantly the car was back to normal. No issues whatsoever and the esc light and EML was cleared. I tried coding the injector but kept failing. Anyway I took the car for a 15 mile drive and it ran without issue. No misfire no hesitation, ran like normal. When I got home. Here is when the issue began. I had another crack at programming the injector and this time was successful. I left the car after this and never drove it. Few hours later I get in the car, started it up and it stalled. The engine was knocking and misfiring. Not as bad as before but it ran rough. I checked around the injector area but could not see anything wrong. Took it for another long drive but it remained the same. So injector replaced and it ran fine. However after programming it started missing and misfiring etc What could be the issue? Any help appreciated. Many thanks |

Did your reconditioned injector come with a new code normally on the packet or on a tag. If you have coded the injector going off the top of the solenoid this may well be the coding for the injector before it was reconditioned. Reconditioning physically invalidates any previous code meaning now the engine runs badly due the tolerances not matching up. Just a thought.

You’re 100% correct. I was putting in the code that is written on the top of the injector. I remembered the injector had a sticker on it which I paid no notice too. However after posting in the morning I went and had a look and indeed it was an injector code. I coded this in and the car ran much better but I still have an issue.
When cold the car stalls a couple of times. It is still misfiring slightly. I have been searching and searching and I keep coming across conflicting information. The injector needs coding which I have done. I keep coming across where people mention the injector also needs adapting and only Volvo can do this. Is this correct? |

You may not need to go to volvo to have this done, but you will need a good diagnostic tool which allows more in-depth controls. A good garage should be able to sort this for you unless there is any specific volvo software required.

From what I have read. Volvo downloads some type of software to the car. Once they have done the adaption if you ever need to replace an injector in future you don’t need to visit Volvo as the software is already on the car. That’s what I got out of reading various threads.
