Default Road Sign Recognition?

One of the features of my car that I really like, is the RSR.
I have found it to be very accurate, here in the UK and in mainland Europe.
The attached link, gives a different opinion.

Have Volvo got something working correctly, or do some experience similar issues?

There is the odds error, but on the whole I think Volvo is pretty damn good at this. Used a lot with the adaptive cruise and speed limiter and pretty reliable. I think we all these technologies, your downfall can be to become to rely on them, than than just treat them as an aid. As long as your always aware and paying attention, it can be a convenience. It could do better at picking up variable speeds on overhead gantries a little earlier.

I find the Road Sign Recognition in my XC90 very accurate. It even picks up the makeshift speed limit signs at road works. Been very reliable so far.

It also conveniently displays the child sign in school zones! Similarly, displays the coin sign, when approaching toll booths (although this could be based on GPS data).

On the 'smart' motorways near me it almost always fails to tell the difference between 50 and 60 mph despite the speed limit showing on large displays above all four lanes.

I do not drive on many roads here in the UK, with overhead gantries, but the RSR certainly picks them up on the approach to the Forth Road Bridge/Edinburgh, etc.
Seems to work fine when driving in Europe.

I should've added that it used to distinguish between 50 and 60 but the last s/w update I had around Feb seemed to introduce the problem.

I think the speed sign recognition, combined with the GPS database, gives the right answer probably 98% of the time so it is useful as an additional aid when I am unsure.

I am absolutely with the author on the combination with adaptive cruise control. The times it gets it wrong it is a real hassle and sometimes dangerous. Like the time my car was on cruise at 30 in a 30, then we passed an entrance to an industrial site with a 5mph limit and the car just braked all the way to 5mph whilst I was busily thinking 'WTF is going on?!'. Then the rounabout in Scunhorpe which inexplicably goes to NSL (when it is patently 30) and the numerous places it thinks are 20 zones but are 30 zones.

Oh and I concur with the mangled motorways issue with 50 and 60s being mixed up. It is difficult enough for the driver in constantly changing 50 and 60s with cameras so the technology is really needed here, but the tech struggles like the human.

So for me, yes as additional info it is helpful, but in combination with adaptive cruise the 2% of the time it is wrong renders it pretty much unfit for purpose.....

Yes, it also brakes quite sharply when you hit say a 20mph from a 30mph - to the point people behind probably think wtf!? Especially if it has got it wrong....

It does actually say in the manual that adaptive cruise does NOT use the roadside camera recognition, and ONLY uses the map data or RTTI. Probably because it's provide a conflict and designers thought best to use one source of truth (or untruth). Pain for temporary roadworks though....

Mine also thinks there 20 zones when there aren't any.

Changing between 50 and 60 every few hundred metres is very annoying. It's almost as if they want to collect some speeding fines...

I didn't realise that adaptive or PA2 automatically adjusted the set speed based on data (from wherever) about the current speed limit. I thought all that stuff was just advisory.

So if I set my car going at, say, 70mph on adaptive or PA2 and then I come up to a average speed zone that's 50mph the car is going to automatically slow down?

Is there any way to turn that off? I prefer to control the set speed myself.
