I was looking for a V70 around this time last year, and with around the £5k budget. I didn't search nationally, but of the few I looked at online and in the flesh, all had either a decent MOT of maybe 8-9 months or the promise of a new ticket if I agreed to buy the car. There's no way I'd have coughed £5k without a new or very long MOT.
It's a lovely looking car and worth spending to get that new ticket IMO.

There are actually a few with the same or slightly less miles for sale at the moment with current MOTs and for less money... Just saying

Correct but... only as long as you have the vehicle insured on the day

However, it's important that the MOT has been booked because if you are stopped en route by police and questioned, you can explain the situation and the garage can verify your appointment.

Be warned - you can only drive a vehicle with a SORN on a public road to attend a pre-booked MOT, or another testing appointment.

In any other circumstances, driving a SORN vehicle on the road risks a maximum fine of £2,500."

2. "Can you drive a SORN car to an MOT station without insurance? Quite simply – no. You cannot drive a car to an MOT station without insurance – and if you do, you could be subject to prosecution, fixed-penalty fines – and possibly even have your car confiscated and destroyed."

3. "in most cases your insurance will be invalidated if you drive without an MOT"

Therefore my understanding is that if the seller does not currently have insurance on the vehicle, and/or even with with the lapsed MOT being as old as it is, then it will need to be collected on trade plates or trailered to the MOT station. If he does have insurance, then the last paragraph should seriously be taken into account ?

I do have some trouble getting my head around this, but I think in logistical order it's;
1, MOT.
2, Insurance.
3, Road tax (or whatever it's called this week!).

I stand to be corrected.
That's what I said

I'd say its not practical for most buyers to buy a car with no MOT as it involves having it trailored home, or booked in with an MOT place local to the seller with whom you are not familiar.

The seller's reluctance to MOT would be enough to put me off.

My V70 T5 has an MOT ....and has had a stack of work done recently with very few miles since.
Not ULEZ compliant so very sadly it has to go as work is taking me into London on a weekly basis.
Please PM if interested.

You'd be better starting your own for sale thread rather than confusing the issue on this one. Nice looking car and with an MOT it should be easy to sell

There seems to be no confusion as I've had a PM earlier today.

I'll start a new thread when the car is officially for sale....with new current pictures and an update on the recent £2000+ spent....
