Well considering my last experience with Stratstone I must say that FRF Motors Swansea pulled out all the stops.

Also on recommendation and I am going to try them next time I need a service is Keith Price Volvo in Abergavenny even though it about 25 miles from where I live.

Mate,

let me know how you get on at Keith Price (my dad lives in Abbergavenny so have somewhere to spend the day)
I live in Newport also and was gonna use Stratstone as my mate is a salesman there.
Even he told me not to use them as they were "f**king expensive" he gave me a name of an independant in Cardiff that is meant to be good but I can't remember it right now as he told me when we were ****ed.

We need to have a Dealer section on this forum and break it down into Regions for people to use, obv only add good dealerships/indie's

Dealers - dunno. Stratstone in Oldham got me the parts I wanted when I wanted them, but I took them to my independent for fitting. Dealers are optional on 16 year old cars.

Independent - Whitelands Motors in Stalybridge, 0161 304 9014. Fully understands motoring on a budget, also fully understands Volvo obsessives, well they have to.

Old school mechanics, will work on anything and probably already have, but Dave who works on my car has had 3 740s himself so knows his way round.

Thumbs up

I used Ray Chapman (dealer) in York last time round for 84K service on a D5, found them very easy to deal with and had no problems also fairly reasonable price at £230 I think (for a dealer). I will be looking for an Indy for the next one though (biggy!!) purely to keep the cost down.

please can you post the details of the independent in Cardiff? I need an oil change in a few hundred miles, not gonna bother with a full service. I can hopefully get them to sign the service book stating oil change only.

cheers! I've worked out you're better off travelling for a piece of mind service!

I found Abergavenny very expensive when i asked for a quote on a service - maybe i should note that in the other section! Best not in case they are good!

Hi.
Here are my experiences:
Main dealer franchises:
Johnsons of Gloucester = reasonable prices, Great parts department (know me by my first name) go out of their way to be helpful, very nice service advisor lady! Take good care of your car.
Johnsons of Worcester = reasonable prices, very knowledgable service manager, however techs can be a bit slapdash.... Have damaged car on one occasion.
Johnsons of Redditch = Great parts department and service staff friendly.

IndependEnts:
Hamish Lindsay Motorsport/VolvoTuning UK Bromsgrove = Very good prices, more than helpful staff, won't sell you unnecessary kit just to take your cash, football mad doggie, great workmanship, take good care of your motor.

Later,
Dan.

Been dealing with Drayton Motors, Wirral; for quite a while. They're now independant, but used to be franchised. Good friendly service, and cheaper than the main dealers. Still accepted from a service stamp point of view by Volvo, and can do warranty work.
