Default Air intake temperature sensor

Hi all,

Need a bit of advise please.

Had a problem on the weekend, car would crank but not start, now sorted. However while I had the diagnostics on the car, live data was showing an intake air temp of 28C at the MAF sensor, but -40k at the Air intake sensor.

Looking on line, ( I have given up on volvo prices, after they wanted £820 for a driveshaft a factor supplied for £180) I find a Bosch air intake temperature sensor part number
0261230293 listed for my 5244 T14 engine, and most of the 2.4 litre 5 cylinder engines made between 2007 and 2015.

My problem is I cannot find its location, look as I may.

I was using Snap On diagnostics as the computer I have vida on has crashed and my IT guru is currently unavailable to work his magic on it, so cannot refer to vida for help.

Can any of you kind souls with vida or Experiance please give me the location of this second sensor.
Car runs ok, but if there's a dead sensor I want to fix it before it causes trouble.

Regards Paul.

This diagram is for the D5244 T10 engine. item 15 fixed onto the intercooler. Think it'll be same place on yours? Its hidden beneath the air box and other hoses. Some other posts about TMAP/MAP replacement suggest it can be an awkward job, but this will be the approach I will attempt in the coming weeks.......

I've replaced my TMAP sensor, but there it was the pressure it reported that was wrong. Decent charge pressure even without the engine running.

Many thanks all, I found it. Down by the intercooler left hand side of car. Under the bottom radiator hose.

For information of any interested

While the original volvo sensor is a Bosch 0 261 230 294 the replacement is a Bosch 0 261 230 293 which seems to fit most D5s between 2007 and 2015.
I purchased it from eBay bay for £25.58. My local factor wanted £29.90 for one but not sure what make that was.
This sensor is both a temperature and preasure sensor.
While not prepared to pay volvo prices I do want OEM quality.

On my 2009 xc70 it was possible to reach the sensor from the top by removing the air filter housing, it is then just a single torx 25 to unscrew and lift the sensor out.
I gave the connector a squirt of contact cleaner before connecting it. Getting the torx screw back in is a faf, I resorted to a blob of grease on the head and the torx 25 1/4 drive socket on an extention pressed into it. Fortunatly this held long enough to guide it in with the aid of a small torch to light the hole.

After test run MAF sensor temp and this Air Inlet temp are within a degree C of each other on live data. Now need to give it a high speed run to burn off some of the 27g of soot in the DPF before that causes trouble.

Regards Paul.
