I too have used Mytyres without any problems and once was ask to pay on bank transfer. I prefer credit card though as you get more protection on your sale. But what the company may fear is charge backing.

Not sure which models have the 316mm disc but I know when I changed mine and did the guide, it took the 316mm disc.
Found this link to a 2009 brochure - http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/pdf/v70/...list_Jan09.pdf

From that the 2.0 Litre Petrol/Diesel/Flexi Fuel all have the 300mm disc with everything else taking the 316mm disc.

Two of my OEM Volvo 18" R-design wheels have perished during my three year owner ship period. I am therefore slightly underwhelmed by the strength of the Volvo alloys as I have never experienced broken alloys prior to switching to Volvo.

Most aftermarket items are cheaper but equally strong and in the case of my alloys they came with a TUV certificate which stated it was suitable for use on my car. As one of the biggest EU market (Germany) requires this you will probably find you can get this for most alloys.

I did not buy OEM for my winter tyres as I wanted more choice at a lower price. And they have so far been very good, even at top speed runs in Germany...

Top speed runs.....hm, usually winter tyres are rated at a maximum of 210km/h (130mph) and I think most Volvo do more than that! Be careful of the tyres are not made for these speeds.

Re TUV certificate on non-OEM wheels, I can confirm this is correct. It is needed to carry the certificate in the car too in case the police wants to have a look.

If it hasn't already been mentioned, kW (Kilowatts) and BHP (brake horse power) are not equivalent scales...rather like Celsius and Fahrenheit. 205bhp is approximately 153kW.

cheers

Being an apparently educated chap, I ought to have realised this! But thanks for the clarification!

I think I might have to put the winter wheels on hold - just found out our dog has heart failure and we always said we will keep the V70 all the time we have a dog, before getting a smaller vehicle. So for the sake of potentially one (or two) winters, It may not be worthwhile the expense of getting new wheels. I suppose I could look into the cost of getting winter tyres on 18" rims, and taking them off in the Spring.

I very much hope you dog's heart problem isn't too serious it recovers ok.

As far as winters on 18"rims, I'm using Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme 245/40R18 on mine and they cost me around £160 per corner inc fitting. Having them changed over on the rim costs £10-15 per wheel depending on where I get them done. So that's £80-120 a season. Really your looking at £700-740 for 1 season and £780-860 for 2 seasons.

I personally think it's more expensive doing it that way! I was kind of forced into as I bought my car in Nov with tyres that really needed replacing soon. It seemed simpler to just fit winters all round.

The other to consider is that with a second set of rims, you can resell them and recoup some of the cost. You don't really get much money selling second hand tyres!
