Default Haldex and Diff swap

Getting the dreaded whine form the diff , V70 d5 205 awd, and came across a diff and haldex from a 2014-2016 with what looks like the Haldex 4 unit. Is this teh same size as a 2010? Cam it be retrofitted?

Hi Mark,

I'm in the same boat (2010 XC70 D5), had an odd noise for a short while, diagnosed as rear diff / haldex, going in next Tuesday. In speaking with a few breakers the later units aren't quiet the same (08-13 then 13 onwards). Hoping it's just the diff bearings!

What’s the score with this. We need a replacement rear diff on a 2010 XC60 D5 AWD. Been quoted £3500 using a Volvo part from Sweden. I baulked at this given the car is probably only worth about £9k and asked them to look into a service where you remove the diff and send it to a specialist. They recondition it, return it and it gets refitted by the garage. Cost is £1900 or £1700 if the splines don’t need replacing (all inc VAT).

Has anyone else had this done and what did it cost?

On the XC70 the first year of the P3 model had Haldex Gen 3, they went to Gen 4 for MY 09 onward.

The XC60 had Gen 4 from inception.

I'm not sure if the XC70 ever went to Gen 5

FYI the XC60 rear end shares many components with the MY09-> XC70 and Ford Kuga AWD models. The driveshafts are even stamped with FoMoCo and Volvo part numbers.

I *think* the XC60 went to Gen 5 in MY13, not sure of the XC70, the XC90 remained on Gen 4 until retirement.
