Forget the last non start comment. Head must be screwed. The batterty had gone down with trying things all day. Jump leads on it is now running! No alarm working but at least the car runs. So all sorted. Thanks for all support and advice.

Default 97 celebration alarm won’t stop sounding

Good afternoon all.

Rekindling an old thread. Have just acquired a 97 940 celebration and the previous owner mentioned that the alarm kept sounding and there is in central locking from the fob but after removing the 15 amp fuse number 5 the alarm stops.

All is well and good but this also affects a number or other items (dash clock, interior lights etc) I am have read many similar problems but am wondering if anybody would be kind enough to guide me
In the right direction to be able to refit fuse 5 and eradicate the issue?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Unfortunately, refitting fuse 5 will re-introduce the alarm/immobilisation problem.
If you look behind the trim on the passenger side below the A-pillar you will see a large double-relay unit - probably orange but possibly black - which is the immobiliser control unit.
If you post the various numbers written on it I might have a compatible unit.
If you can do without the car for a while you can pull this relay and check the internals for dry-solder joints and re-flow them.

Unhappy PM please

If someone could PM me the magic instructions I would be most grateful! Volvo Guard 1 on L-reg 940 has constant red LEDs. Battery drains in 48 hours. Charged will turn over but won't start. I never had a fob, just a single mechanical key. Have guard triangle thing on drivers door pillar, has 3 buttons on it none of which do anything. Would be delighted to remove altogether as an alarm is of no use to me. MOT due in a few days and car has been stuck like this for several weeks

Thank you all for the assistance so far.

Going to get the tools together this afternoon, get involved, and see where I end up.

Will post some pictures later and hopefully get to the bottom of this 👍🏻

Hey guys!

Just got into under the dash. What I found is.

Disconnected it and replaced fuse 5 and the alarm is still going off.

Any ideas?

Kind regards

Found and unplugged alarm unit under steering wheel. Still won't start. Tried disconnecting battery for an amount of time in the hope it might reset. No joy.

well thats above my knowledge . but on a 1994 model is the same as mine 1995
if its disconnected on these cars that should of immobilised the alarm .
if the red light is flashing on the pillar that means the alarm is still live so there should be a fuse somewhere .take it its a genuine volvo alarm with the triangle unit on the pillar . have you looked under the bonnet right hand pillar area i have seen fused units there too !

That's the immobiliser unit, though I would have expected it to be on the passenger side.

IIRC (as it was several years ago) I swapped out the original unit for another one then paired (re-programmed) the fobs to the new unit. I recently acquired two fobs from a breaker and successfully paired them to the unit in the Exxon Valdez.

Have you tried following the re-pairing process - key to start position 5 times in very quick succession then press either fob button, which should trigger the centra locking?
