Default M Reg 850 2.5 Auto SE

Good Morning,

A long time customer of mine has had a stroke and can't now drive ever and has offered me his 850 2.5 SE Auto at banger money, it does a full MOT!

Please could anyone tell me, is this a good specification and worth having and giving it some TLC to bring it back to it's former glory.

I have noted that both bumpers are cracked in places, are they an easy change or repair?

The load cover is missing?

The genuine wheel caps are only two and damaged?

The roof bar cover strip has been caught in a car wash at some time and the under clips are damaged?

This is the first time l have considered a hobby car since my Son was born six years ago and l have always preferred to keep cars in original condition so any help or advice would be most welcome.

Thank You

James

Its a pretty low spec, but everything can retrofitted.

Bumpers are very easy to remove, couple of bolts and rivets.

Load covers are getting rarer, expect to pay at least £40-50 for one, they break all the time and repair kits costs £12 or so.

Steelies are not desirable, alloys are cheap cheap for these.

Roof bar strips are very easy to remove, clips will need replacing and cost around £2 each.

its got to be worth having, go for it.

Mine has steel wheels but looks smart with proper unmarked Volvo hubcaps

should be able to get plastic filler to repair the bumpers. Easier then new bumpers I would have thought

Good luck, keep us posted

I have almost the same car, ie an M Reg 850 2.5 SE but mine is a manual.

This is probably one of the oldest on this forum and I doubt anyone else has owned their car as long as I have had this one (24 years). So I think I have a pretty good idea of what they are like – apart for the automatic aspect that is, which I guess adds complexity. I can say that my experience with the manual is that the car which I use most days to commute to work has been very robust and reliable.
