Default Mist in XC90 Headlamp lens

After an uphill battle with Warranty I have just had a headlamp unit replaced which had suffered cracks from the orange corner with no signs of impact.

The new one is great but is suffering a fine condensation mist on wet days is this a common problem. The unit is made by Valeo. The dealer tells me minor misting is normal but I am dubious as the old ones didn't. The car is a year old.

Appreciate if anyone else has had these problems and how they were resolved.

misting isnt a problem on these unless water is getting in somehow , maybe through a poor lens seal joint .

In the first weeks I had my car (pre-registered so 3 Months old when I first received it) there was always mist/condensation in both headlamps.
After a few weeks it has disappeared and have never seen it again since.
If it's only light mist I wouldn't worry about it.

My 2003 D5 has a problem with the headlight lenses.
At the top of each lens, roughly above each bulb, the lens looks as though it has been rubbed with sand paper - it is a myriad of fine scratches.
I don't suspect anyone of having done this deliberately.
Has anyone seen something similar on their lenses?

I have seen palstic headlights get a milky look on the top when the car is left outside a lot.

You can restore the lights with Meguiar's PlastX. I had a motorbike run into the back of my XC90 and make a long scratch on the rear light and the PlastX got rid of it in no time.

I just reread your post and I'm wondering do you mean inside the light, which seems odd if that's the case?

All the best.

Roy

I also have the same issue with my 03 T6

Roy,
Not inside (or at least I don't know whether the "scratches" are inside too).
I was wondering whether the heat from the bulbs might be causing the plastic lenses to break down and create the scratched appearance).
I thought that if many owners had the same experience it might point to a manufacturing problem which Volvo should be made aware of.
Perhaps this thread should be reposted under the heading of "Scratches on headlight lens" to attract more attention to this specific occurrence.
