Default 1800 OE alloys

I seem to recall someone was searching for these alloys, although I can't find the relevant post. Anyway, may be of general interest to 1800 owners.

They're in NZ but could be shipped of course

You need to be very very careful with these wheels. They have an alloy centre with a steel rim and suffer from bi metallic corrosion where they are riveted together.

I have taken several sets from 1800E's and replaced them with other rims because I considered them unsafe.

is it the alloy or the steel that rots (its usually the alloy isnt it?) If it was the steel it would be possible to seperate them and possibly put some sort of protected rim on wouldnt it?

I've heard and read about this for years,,,,,,,,, but has anyones 1800E actually suffered a wheel failure in use and if so who and when?

I've never had a failure, but when you take the tyre off a wheel and see rivets which are extremely corroded, look at the joint beteeen the rim and the alloy centre and see the join is separating because corrosion is building up in the gap then good sense dictates you don't just throw on a new tyre and hope for the best.

I took one to motor wheel services years ago when they were still in London and was told they were unwilling to repair it.

I wasn't suggesting that, I just wanted to know if anyone had actually suffered such an accident.
