Default 340 CVT trouble

I have been reading Neo's problems with his (or her, sorry) 340 CVT, and they sound pretty similar to mine. I bought my 1983 CVT 3 weeks ago with 9 months MOT for £40. It had been sitting in the dealer's store for some time, possibly from July, when it passed it's last MOT. therefore, not being in regular use, I think my problem may differ to Neo's.

There is no difference in performance when the low gear switch is turned on or off. However, the green light on the switch still works, and turns off when the switch is turned off. Revs become high by 30mph, and seem similar to driving a manual car in 2nd at that speed. The car has made it up to 60mph and was not about to explode, so some movement must be made in the CVT. The car has a genuine 29,912 miles on the clock (verified by former MOT slips), and therefore might not be working, due to lack of use over 19 years(coupled to it being used 3 times or so in the last few months). Any feedback would be much appreciated, as cycling to work in the rain is getting a bit tedious......
Jon.
