Default 2006 S60 steering angle sensor.

Hi folks.
I am new to Volvo DIY work.
I have a 2006 s60 d5 with dtsc and four-c. I have anti skid service and four c temporarily unavailable message. I have scanned with a copy Vida dice, that I got from eBay. The steering angle sensor does not communicate with the module. From what I can make out the steering angle sensor is part of the clock spring behind the steering wheel and this is the part I need to replace. What I would like to know for definite is A, does it have to be a brand new part to replace it and B, can I do it myself or is it dealer only job?
Regards SB

Hi
what codes did you get.
a software upgrade could be the cheaper option first.
they come as a complete unit i think.

as mike says a software upgrade may fix it as the new software alters the parameters of the sensor. If your unlucky like me then you will need a new sensor and they come as part of the clock spring at about 250 pounds. It will then require a software update or so the vida instructions show which makes it a dealer job

Smile anti skid service msg

Hi Guys,

Ive noticed im getting the occasional 'anti skid service required' message coming up on my 06 S60, does seem to be related to using the steering wheel full range, also sometimes a tiny squeak as your turning the steering wheel, so im wondering if it might be the steering wheel posn sensor, has anyone had this apart? and are there any moving contacts in there that might be causing a problem as they wear?. What is the software update about?

Not sure you can take it apart if you can then it's a plus
The software update extends the parameters of the sensor to give it a wider range. It worked for me on this occasion

Turning steering from lock to lock can reset SAS, but i'm sure you've tried that.

How does turning the wheel from lock to lock reset it?

It doesn't, using a scan tool you have to enter calibration mode then turn the wheel full lock to lock so the ECU can work out the extreme left and right angular turning values and then calculate the straight ahead position.
