Default Impeded headlamp flasher / dipper. 1970 1800E

Hi all, the indicator/headlamp stalk on my car is angled upwards at about 40 degrees, whereas I understand that it should be at about the same angle as the overdrive control on the other side. There is a kink at the base of the stalk. More importantly, the stalk is impeded by the trim cowl which goes around the underside of the steering column and around both stalks, meaning I can't pull it forward to operate the main beam. The stalk looks to have been manufactured in this shape (it has not been bent accidentally).

I've managed to bend the locating hole on the cowl to give the stalk enough space to manoeuvre, but it's hardly an elegant solution, as the cowl is now not flush with the dash behind.

Tried to attach pics but can't. Will try on laptop!

Sorry about upside down photos! In the cold light of day, I reckon my indicator/flasher unit must have been switched for an incorrect one at some point....

Does anyone happen to have a correct unit for sale?
