Default Volvo C70 strut braces

Now I know these are rarer than rocking horse poo, and I'm not going to waste my time posting in the wanted section, but I am toying with the idea of making my own.

There are a few problems with this however, the first, and probably the biggest problem, is the fact that I can't weld!! The guys in our workshop tried to train me the other day, and it didn't end well, all that needed doing was a spot weld on the exhaust of the C70.

I managed to somehow un-weld what had already been done, and permanently attach the end of the welding torch to the exhaust! 🙄

The next issue is knowing what type of metal to use, I was thinking of square tubing, probably 1/4 inch.

And lastly I have no idea of the measurements required, as I know it has to be very angled and not just straight.

So........has anybody on here ever made there own and can advise me on whats needed, or can somebody who has one send me some measurements please??

With this post, any and all replies are welcome!!

Ta! 😁😁

PartsforVolvoonline had a batch of 50 pattern braces manufactured several years ago and I was lucky to purchase the last one about 3 years ago. I asked when I collected if they were going to have any more made up and the answer was a resounding no. Apparently the fabricators had had so many issues getting them just right that they were not prepared to make any more. I believe bending the aluminium tubing was the main issue.

I drove over 100km one day to find the towing cover from my bumper and found it

I would imagine looking around the forum to be easier

Hi John

It is for the C70, yes.

You know, I can remember when Volvo still had them in stock about 5 years ago and they were selling them off cheap to get them out of the warehouse!! From what I can remember they were available for £40 to the dealers. If only I had bought one then.

I do also have another avenue to explore, but thanks to Covid I can't at the moment. There is a welder just round the corner from where I work that fabricates items, so when he re opens I may have to pop in and have a word with him.

That's a heck of a find, once a customer left his car key on the roof of his V90 and lost it on a 10 mile stretch of the A30, and it was never seen again!!
