XC70: Satnav with postcode search

I have a November 2005 XC70 185ps with factory satnav. I have read that owners of same year XC90 can get postcode searching by upgrading to the latest disks - Volvo Part Number: 31310191.

However, I have seen posts from some XC70 owners of same age that suggest postcode searching is not available on the XC70 with these disks.

Can someone clarify this point please? Especially if you do have it working. Did you also have to get some firmware upgrade (which my dealer says is impossible, though I have seen it mentioned elsewhere). If you have upgraded but not achieved postcode search, do you find the upgrade worthwhile anyway?

I just purchased the latest update disks for my '04 XC70's SatNav, thinking it would give me maps and improved functionality. It even said it was updating my software when I initially loaded it.

However, they do not give me postcode search. When I contacted the creaters of the disk (RTI) they told me that the functionality is not their responsibility -- they just make the maps -- and to contact Volvo for any postcode updates.

The sad news is that I've not been able to find any detail of an update that gives a postcode search :-(

What annoys me is that I don't live in a City (or even near one) and my house has a name not a number -- so I can't actually put it in as a destination to the SatNav.

Similarly, the school where I work doesn't have a street number -- so I can't put it in as a destination either.

OK I know the way home and the way to work but it's just stupid huh?

My question is the same as yours -- is there a firmware update that get me postcode search?

I have a 2008 XC70 SE and it does have post code ability, however I want to upgrade the maps and I’m sure that I read somewhere that their is usually a software update for the operating system as well, does that makes the satnav more user friendly, Does any one know if this is something that changes each time you purchase the latest map updates or is it a one off on a certain years update? My maps have never been updated and I don’t want to waste hard earn money if not.

2008 model will have MMM DVD-based system rather than Sensus. I got 2017 map for my '08 XC70 and there were no visible software updates from the original 2008 maps it came with. However on a previous P2 XC70 there were quite a few changes apparent after new map update was applied.

The Volvo system is a little clunky but does the job.
