Default V50 D5 Noise - please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello

I have recently (3 weeks ago) bought a Volvo V50 R-Design D5 on an 08 plate with 97,000 miles on the clock. It has a full Volvo service history with Volvo Ayr and to all intent and purposes despite being an ex company car it is in immaculate condition. In the 3 weeks I've had it I've done just under 2K miles, and on the way home tonight i THINK I've started to notice a noise which is bothering me.

I say 'think' because I'm wondering if now the honeymoon is over I'm just noticing things more. But I'll explain what they both are, one doesn't really bother me and the other will keep me awake tonight. Hopefully someone will tell me that all D5's make this noise and I'll be ok.

Noise 1 (The scary one) - When I accelerate hard I'm 'think' I'm hearing a slight whirring noise at the top end of the rev range, around 4000rpm. It is most noticeable in 1st and slightly noticeable in 2nd, but you cannot hear it any other gears. I have tried to replicate the noise when stationary with the bonnet up but when I do this it sounds like it's maybe just because anything will make a slightly stressed noise at 4000rpm?

The camera on my phone has crap sound reproduction so until I have a better way of recording the noise there is little point in me posting a video. I have rung Volvo Ayr and they tell me the cam-belt is due changing at the next service at 108,000 miles. I'm no mechanic but this sounds really high to me and I'm paranoid of the belt snapping, or the noise being related??!! But the 108,000 mile service is looking at £700+....and I've just cleared out my saving buying the car, so if i can avoid doing it 10,000 miles early, ideally I would like to.

Noise 2 - The road noise resembles that of a worn wheel bearing, and if I let the car gently veer to the right on a smooth road surface i'm sure i can hear a gentle rumble? I'm worried because the I've read horror stories of half shafts and allsorts on here?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Steve

What does the 108,000 miles service entail? What am I getting for my money?

just been peaking through my stats and noticed I never closed this thread properly.

Claytons of Mansfield carried out the service for me, I described the noise before they started. Keith told me afterwards that they didn't find anything wrong, but something they had changed had replaced the knackered part because the engines smooth as a baby again
