The top pulley? What side? Intake or exhaust side? If intake side, then it is the waterpump.

Looking from the front It's on the left, mounted on the front of the head and driven by the belt.

The front is then the intake side so it is the waterpump... See this:

Must correct myself. That is beneath. If I'm not wrong, I think it is the tensioner... Actually, it IS the tensioner. Some had to be changed... Squeaks... Yeah,. the waterpump is below that...!

Sure it is the tensioner and not the chain? When cold, my engine rattles as if it was broken... The tensioner can cause issues and there was a recall here in Germany for it...

If the aux belt is squeaky from cold there is a conversion kit to convert it from the spring tensioner type to the later fixed tensioner and stretch belt . If you go to the dealer you will automaticlay get the kit , stretch belt and fixed tensioner to replace the spring tensioner .. and no more sqeaks !

Think so, I sprayed some chain lube into the pulley and the noise went, was back from cold though.

It just taps for minute then stops,I think a tensioner is £50 from ECP, any idea how much the kit is from Volvo ?.
