And stop worrying about fuel consumption - if we were not meant to be driving gas guzzling monsters Volvo would never have been created for us to enjoy. Economy???? I thought that was part of the governments responsibility

I was too late in the end, spent too much time deliberating over it and the motor has been sold. Not to worry the search goes on. Anyone know whether the 2.0d units require their first cambelt change at 144k miles? ( just something which has been quoted to me and in the absence of a handbook I can not disprove it - any help would be appreciated folks) Seems excessive to me.

Haynes say 90,000 miles or 5 years. not going out to car to look at handbook. the 2.0D 4 cyl is a pug/ford engine. having abused pug diesel engines for many years i think it will be reliable.

Thanks subaqua, might give this one a look over. I have a friend who has clicked over 167k on a ford petrol engine and it still sounds sweet. Could be worth a go. Thank you for taking the time to come back to me.

Default Opted for S80

Thanks for all the helpful posts guys. Went totally off the rails and decided to go for a S80 instead. Persuaded the wife that we didn't need the estate anymore. Now the proud owner of a 59 plate S80 Se. Only a 2.0 diesel but to be honest the 136bhp is enough for me and it returns a very healthy 48-54mpg on short to medium runs (16miles-100miles single journey). Good on the Road Fund Licence stakes as well, at £175 for the year. High mileage but FVSH and it it ever so quiet.

At a fraction under £7k it looks to be a steal. Hope I too have years of happy motoring to come, first impressions would suggest that I have.

Thanks again folks.

Default My 59 plate S80 2.0D SE

5 Weeks on and I have to say that I am well pleased with my new S80. IT may well have 118k miles on the clock for a 59 plate but it sounds sweet as a nut and is easily returning 48 mpg on short journeys. Got 53mpg on the 100 mile trip from Doncaster where I bought the car.

Loving it - a happy Volvo driver once again.

Thanks for the suggestions folks.

Thats fantastic to hear!!

I've got an 07MY and absolutely love it too. Only 4k miles on the clock less than you, but drives superb. Enjoy!
